Default 1992 EZGO Marathon Electric Cart

I have a 1992 Marathon that won't go when the accelerator is pressed all the way to the floor. If I only push it down half way it will take off, but stop when I go all the way to the floor. Then it will not work at all for a while. I can hear the soleniod click when I push on the accelerator, but no go. I will come back in 10mins and again it will work as long as I only push the accelerator half way. Any idea's?

Sounds like a potentiometer problem. Had same problem with mine.

More than likely it just needs to be adjusted. Hard part is telling you how to adjust it, Ive never gotten the verbage down right, but I 'll try.

Where the arm attaches to the POT, you will see a 1/4 nut and screw, and in the middle of the arm is a slot. Loosen the nut, turn the slot with a flat head screw driver...know the key here is, it doesn't take much to make a change, a 32nd of an inch is a lot, but play with it and you will get it.

Or you can forget all this and buy a new one.

Yes indeed they are touchy little buggers but with patience you can adjust them and save the $100 for the new assembly. Usually within +500 ohms is sufficient. 0 ohms at rest and 5k-5.5k at wide open throttle. I found that locking the nut back down without changing the range seems to be the most difficult part.

Unlock-adjust-lock-measure. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.
Patience is definitely a virtue on this one. Good luck.

Okay, before I started adjusting anything I just cleaned up the connections and made sure everything was making good contact. This got things working, but the response is very slow now and no torque. Very slow to start and takes some time to get up to speed. Still a POT problem???? If so, I think I will just buy the assembly. Please provide your feedback. Appreciate it.

Ok battery check,

how old are the batteries??

Do you have a meter, and can you take a reading of the volts on the pack of batteries and post the volts here,
