Smile Hey guys :)

Hey guys,
New guy here. We own a 1997 electric TXT golf cart (36V).
When we bought it used, it was really slow so the guy took out the 6 6V batteries and put 3 12v club car batteries :they are the trojans brand:
Well, I don't know much about it. We bought it 10 years ago. It's still pretty strong but I would like to make it faster. I read that there is a easy way to make it that is by a chip when the car is PDS. I believe mine is not. Anyway to know?

Anything I should know about the car and what to look out for?
Speed is what I want and if I can get more torque it wouldn't hurt :)
Thanks

If your cart is a 1997 then it is either a TXT or a DCS, PDS did not come out until 2000 I believe. If it is a TXT then the fnr switch will be by your legs, if it is a DCS it will have a FnR switch by your legs but will also have a toggle switch on the controller box.

I guess it's a TXT since it says it.
Thanks for that. I see that to get torque you need a new controller. The only way to gain speed is bigger tires and new motor.

Anyone recommend any controllers and motors?
Thanks

All plastic bodied EZ-Go carts are TXT's excluding the new RXV carts. Your '97 is either a Series or DCS style cart. DCS carts have a Run/Tow toggle switch on the controller cover, Series carts do not.

Speed is determined by RPM, tire diameter, and gearing. First you need to decide what you want your cart to be. Lifted? 4-passenger? Neighborhood cruiser? Hunting buggy? There are lots of solutions.

Well, I guess it's a series cause it doesn't have the run/toggle switch on the controller box.

It's already a 4 passenger.

I want to keep it low so no lifting. what are the biggest tires you can fit on a non lifted cart?

Also, I got a problem. I hook up the fallowing to the Neg terminal on the first battery:
Speakers, radio, lights and the charger cable.
When I run the cart that terminal gets really hot. It got melted one time. We applied protector spray and all the terminals and in this one it went away and it's getting black.
Is there another way to hook this things up?
Thanks

20" is maximum diameter for non lifted carts, ans even this assumes great springs are being used for the rear with 4 persons onboard.

Terminals overheat because of poor connections. If the battery terminal is damaged the condition will only worsen over time. Connections become bad from improper crimping, soldering, corrosion, and simply getting loose over time. Try to keep the connections to the battery terminals to a minimum. Terminal blocks come in real handy for this. Stacking eyelets on a battery terminal forces all the pack current and heat through all of them and leads to early failure, heat, melting.......you get the idea.

I guess I will need better springs than. What is a good parts store? Here in PR the only store we have charge us a lot!
I will check the connections today. I guess I will buy new eyes for the wires.

Now that you mention the terminal blocks. Where can I get these? they sound like the fix for my problem.
Thanks a bunch

I think you have made a grave mistake by putting in 3-12volt batteries,4-12volt in a club car dont have the distance and 3 in a car is gonna be worse. You arent going to have much run time at all because you dont have the battery capacity.
