New brake pads on..now what ?
I finally changed the brake pads on my 1988 ezgo. I backed off cable adjuster under the cart and the adjuster inside the drum all the way. What should I do now or which do I adjust first ? I read on another site that I need two people to adjust the the star wheel. one person presses the brake down one inch and the other person adjusts the star wheel. ?
any advise would be great. aloha joe ps will post pics |

Adjust the star wheel till the pads drag on the drum slightly. Back-off a few clicks and put it together. Carefully drive the cart back and forth applying sharp brake inputs. If the star wheels are properly greased, they will do their job and adjust the brakes.

I'm not familiar with the '88 setup, but I would guess there is a way to take up the cable slack under the cart.

Re: New brake pads on..now what ?
The old carts have a turnbuckle deal between the peddle and the drum ...... just turn it one way or the other? to tighten the cable to get no more than 1 inch of free brake peddle movement..... I don't see a need for two people unless one opens the beers aloha

Re: New brake pads on..now what ?
Thanks all, well, I loosened the cable under the cart and the adjuster in the brake drum. This allowed me to pull the drum off without any effort. my question was which do I tighten first. anyway I went ahead and tightened the cable, now I am just gonna tighten the adjuster till it touches the drum. I will see how works. here are some pics. Not sure if I needed new pads

Looks good and i would think you needed to adjust cable freeplay to spec and then adjust the drums out like you did, then depress the brake peddle several times till the adjusters stop clicking and your done.

Re: New brake pads on..now what ?
ohhh..now I get it. The adjuster in the drum will adjust on it own, that is why it has a spring catch on the adjuster.
thanks I get it now. joe |

Re: New brake pads on..now what ?
well...no go on the auto adjust. gonna have to take the wheels off again. backed out of the garage hit the brake and nothing. almost had to jump off to stop it. tightened up the cable some more, still no stop. will get back up on the stands and mess with the adjuster in the drum. Before I was upset about it not going, now i can't get it stop
