Wires or Batteries???
I have a 05 EZ GO TXT with 05 Trojan Batteries. My cart is lifted and now when I drive it on level ground everything is great. It slows a little as I ride but not much. When I climb a hill (which I do often around our home) it goes really slow. After I rode it for awhile over the weekend I felt the battery cables and they were extremely hot especially the one that I guess goes to the motor. I have 6 guage wire on my cart and wonder if that is the problem. The only thing that makes me wonder if it is the battery is that two of my batteries must have had a melted terminal before I owned it and now there is simply a screw in the terminal holding the cable down. I make sure that stays tight but wonder if I should just get a new battery. Just wondering what you think may be the problem here. All I know is the wires are so hot after riding that I can not even touch them without getting burned. Thanks for the help.

Re: Wires or Batteries???
I think the heat in the wires caused the battery terminals to melt down. Everything I have learned on here is that you must change to 4 guage with a lifted cart. I changed mine to 2 ga because it was free.
Wait to see what the experts say. |

Re: Wires or Batteries???
Heat comes from resistance. Going up hill draws a lot of current (amps) which if it is "restricted" by poor cables/connections creates resistance which equals heat. Change out all 6ga to a good quality high strand count 4ga welding cable. Also, your batteries are approaching end of life at 5 years. Probably time to start saving for a new pack or at least planning for it.

Re: Wires or Batteries???
YES and then maybe cables. Had 2 neighbors with melted terminals just from corroded cables. Melted lead on top of battery = order new cables and batteries. You say you have 2 gauge, but are they high strand count or heavy duty (with thick strands)?

Re: Wires or Batteries???
Replace with bigger (wires, then solenoid, FNR switch) everything that gets hot. Whats worse is when nothing is getting hot or warm and you still creep up hills. Then I would changeout the batteries unless they test out good and/or are old like yours.

Re: Wires or Batteries???
I believe it is your cables. I had the same problem in which it was melting the battery terminal on one battery only and the cables would get very hot. So i went and bought a brand new battery and it did the same thing. So i went and bought brand new 4 gauge wires and i have not had any more problems. i can drive it up hill for a good while and it never gets hot. I hope this helps

Re: Wires or Batteries???
Hey thanks for the help. I'm ordering new 4 gauge wires and if that doesn't work I'll get new batteries. Thanks for all the help
