1992 EZ Go Freedom died help
I was just given a 1992 Ezgo freedom for the lake. it has not been used since last summer (2007). Batteries are new as of (2007). I delivered it to the lake house and took it for a spin. On flat ground it was slow and going up hill was even slower. You could almost walk as fast as it was going up the hill. It is a 36 volt system (3 holes in each battery and 6 total bateries). Any way. Last night i was heading back to the house from the dock and was going down a hill and it just died. as soon as i started going up the hill it did nothing. the reverse buzzer still worked and still nothing. The lights did however dim when the cart was still running but once it didn't work anymoer the lights were just as bright as if we were just sitting there with the lights on. I charged the cart all night and woke up this morning and still nothing. Any clues on where to start would be greatly appriciated.

Re: 1992 EZ Go Freedom died help
Check the voltage of the batteries first. Put a meter in the charger plug and see what you get. Fully charged batteries should be around 42-44 volts. Give all the cables a good tug and make sure all the connections are tight. I assume this is a controller cart right? Batteries look like this. Have you smelled anything burning smell or a plastic melting smell. Check the F/R switch between your legs on the inside and see if it looks burnt looking.

Just as Andy said...check the voltage first then check ALL the connections real good. Even if the cart was just sitting things will happen to connections. Its also good practice to check the battery cable connections and electrolyte level AT LEAST once a month.

Thanks for the place on where to start looking. I have no idea if this is a controller cart??? How can you tell. I have never owned a golf cart. Pretty good around car engines, but am completely clueless about electric golf carts. I will let you know what I found this evening after I test it.

Does it have the black box under the plastic cover in picture. Has the cables ran to it.

Re: 1992 EZ Go Freedom died help
I found that a battery cable was sparking. When the cable is pushed in further (Looks like the end had been melted off) It starts to move. Now that it is back up and running (Hopefully) after I replace the battery cable. Is there anything I can do to make the cart go faster on flat ground and especially going up hills. I am also aboutto put a back seat on and i do not want to have to make people walk up a hill because the cart barely moves up hill.

You should upgrade all the cables if they are original, 4 gauge cables will give it a little more torque, new cables are always good.
