3rd solenoid = Need Help!
After installing new batteries everytime I drive the cart the solenoid gets really hot then burns up, no click no run.
Reed switch is bypassed, the microswitch still clicks, pack voltage is 38v, series cart. What causes this to happen?? |

Re: 3rd solenoid = Need Help!
Are you using a 36v golf cart solenoid intended for continuous duty cycles, or a 12v automotive unit?

Re: 3rd solenoid = Need Help!
2000 series, 4ga. cables, i think its a stock curtis controller or equal, everything else is stock, just new batteries.
The solenoid is for the 36v ezgo I got from my local golf cart shop. I have checked all connections and for burnt or wires worn throw and everything looks good to me. This time I drove the cart for 5mins was running a slight incline at 13mph and thats when the solenoid got hot and fried. The time before this I drove the cart for 20mins then got to a steep incline and then the solenoid fried. Does the load on the cart have anything to do with it? |

Re: 3rd solenoid = Need Help!
We nee to know exactly what controller and if you have the correct resistor and diode on your solenoid? Can you post a pic of the installed solenoid? And give the solenoid make and model? Something's not right? ....any hot cables when this happens?

Re: 3rd solenoid = Need Help!
the controller is a Curtis PWC
P/N 25864G05 S/N 9336-P029523 the solenoid is a White-Rodgers 70-111224-2 Coil 12V D.C. CONT. there is no diode Nothing else seems to get hot when this happens. My last Solenoid before did have a diode on it. The guy at the shop said I didn't need it. trying to post pics. |

Re: 3rd solenoid = Need Help!
You need a diode and a resistor on the solenoid.
