Default i think i know but will ask any way

Have and 05 txt. The wife uses it to tool around our 5 acrs. Was thinking about a lift and larger tires for ground clearance. We live on a pretty good hill. With stock tires and wheels, the cart really slows to a crawl coming up the hill.

am i corect it thinking that if i go with a lift and bigger wheels that i will probablly have to go from 36 to 48 volts to pull the hill?

If so will stay away from lift for now.

any ideas for a more aggressive tire for a non lifted cart?

Thanks

Erik if all you do is make the tires larger in diameter will decrease the torque. So that means it may not even be able to climb the hill at all.

Electric motors are a strange beast, and do not work like most folks think. You gain torque with current, not voltage. So simply going from a 36 to 48 volt system will not gain you any torque, only some speed as the voltage is directly proportional to motor RPM or speed. What you are after is more current because current = torque.

I disagree. Go put 48v worth of batteries in your 36v series golf cart and point the cart at any hill and go. Then come back here and Tell me it doesn't have more torque ?????

When you add 12 more volts you gain about 20-30% increase in speed and torque. That being said you will need a controller to handle 48 volts, a solenoid and a way to charge. It's not as simple as adding another battery.

Tens of thousands of carters can't be wrong.........

Not without changing the motor and/or controller. You will get more speed from the higher voltage, but if the controller is the same then no more current is available to provide the extra torque.

Now with that said, if all you do is go from 36 to 48, you might push a little more current through to overcome the resistance in the connections and wiring, but technically if you leave the stock 175 amp controller in, you are not going to get any increase in current thus torque.

I disagree.
Of copurse the controller has to be rated for the voltage going to it. DUH! Perhaps there are gains here that do not show on paper? I can over volt a motor and actually keep the same size controller and see those gains. Have you ever run a 36v golf cart on 48v? I have done it with controllers as small as 300amps with torque improvements.

If you have 2 identical carts both 300 amps but 1 is 36 volts and the other is 48 and the only difference being that, the 48 volt carts is going to have 20-30% increase in power and speed across the board. I dont know where your getting your info but its wrong. Carters have been doing this for many years.....accoridng to you they are all wrong. I don't think so. If you have never done it how do you know?

My cart must be fooling me then. I just thought it was faster and more powerfull, but I see now that I have been fooled. May as well throw it away and get a moped......

Thanx, sunking. You have enlightened me and set me free.
