How much total voltage should I be reading at the plug of my 36 volt battery charger? For instance 36.7, 42, 44.5 what will my voltmeter read unplugged at the connection of the charger itself.

If you are talking about total pack voltage it depends on when you take the reading. If you take it during charging it could read as high as 46 volts with good batteries. If you take it after they have settled it may be 40 ,42. It just depends on when you do it.
The readings should be the same for the battery terminal or charger plug or the back of your anologe gauge terminals. Shouldn't see any real defferance. |

My charger only reads 6.5 to 6.8 volts and i'm trying to determine if its bad or not. I guess it should be reading in excess of 42 volt then correct? I'm new to the electrics but learning fast.
thanks for the info JIm |

What do you mean charger is reading 6.5 or 6.8
If you take a digital meter and read your batteries then add all 6 readings together this will give you full pack voltage. If your saying each battery is reading either 6.5 or 6.8 then they should be good. |

I'm not talkingabout the batteries! I'm talking about the charger unhooked, turned on! To see if it is working or not you must see if its putting out so how many volt should be present at the plug before its plugged in. I know what the batteries are supposed to be. Or better yet how would you know if your charger is bad? How would you check it?
