Default anemometer

A half decent wind gauge can be purchased for $50 & you would have a full time speedometer that would be fairly accurate. Anyone think about doing this?

No sometimes you will show a reading of say 20mph with the key out and the cart on blocks.

Or you can install a Schwinn bicycle speedometer.. I installed one on both of my carts.. It's pretty accurate after programming the tire size, +/- 1 MPH by my GPS.. It has a magnet that is mounted on the hub, and a pickup that is ziptied to the spindle.. They can be had for less than $20.00..

I saw a post on a similar setup in BGW awhile back. Seems like it should work fine. I even think it might be more accurate then GPS. However I just use the GPS for speed checks glad to hear that in comparison tests you saw readings within 1mph. I don't know about subscription fees for a GPS I have a garmin and there are no monthly costs.

I have a Garmin handheld GPSMAP 175, and there are no subscription fees.. The OP may be talking about a TomTom or other similar GPS service..

I really like the Schwinn speedometer, it has a permanent odometer showing total miles traveled, and a resettable trip meter.. It will also retain max speed for later reference.. I put one on Ike during his rebuild, and have racked up just over 225 miles on the clock so far..

It has a single lithium watch battery that is replaceble.. It goes into "sleep" mode when it detects no wheel movement for 15 seconds, it "wakes up" as soon as the magnet passes the sensor.. The one on my EZGO gasser is nearing three years old on the original battery.. I need to look at the manual to see how to save the odometer reading before the battery is removed for replacement..
