Tow/Run Switch questions
Hello from Northeast Florida. I've done a search and can't find some info I'm looking for. I appreciate your knowledgeable answers.
I just bought a '96 TXT. From long ago memory I remember a Tow/Run switch that is to be used if the batteries die and it is to be towed to the shop. I can't find such a switch on my cart. It has a series motor. Since I do not have the Tow/Run switch how should I transport the cart to my shop if for some reason it can't power itself? Should I tow it? Or, put it on a trailer? Is there a safe distance to tow it without the switch? Can I add the switch? Thanks in advance for educating me. KIX |

Re: Tow/Run Switch questions
Since your cart does not have a run/tow switch and it is a series motor you can tow this cart as far as you like without damage with the key off and the directional selector in Neutral. Welcome to BGW!

Re: Tow/Run Switch questions
Don't tow it much faster than the cart would go on it's own power though.

Re: Tow/Run Switch questions
Because they can not be put in Neutral.
The faster you spin the rear wheels, the faster the motor will turn till it reaches its limit then.....boom! |

Re: Tow/Run Switch questions
So would the same theory apply if you were free wheeling down a step hill with full throttle, going faster than the cart can go under it's own power?? KA BOOM?? granade the motor? Also what would be the limit befor the granade ??

Re: Tow/Run Switch questions
Yes, your theory is correct and the limit for motors is around 8000 rpm.

Re: Tow/Run Switch questions
I've been ummm..experimenting with the free-wheel Kabloom limit with my 04 PDS since I put the alltrax in it.
I'll let you know when I find out.(there are probably a few on this forum who have found the limit already, maybe they will chime in) Best advise would probably be to not free-wheel much faster than the flat land max speed. Happy trails! |

Re: Tow/Run Switch questions
welcome kix to BGW! how far do you have to tow this cart? and i would tow it slow, even with the tow bars that go from the center of the front axle to the passenger side yoke still sways back and forth if you go to fast. and adding the tow/run switch is not feasible with series carts. if it has no power i would check all connections first, then go to solenoids and so on.
