Default Need help identifying an EZ-go (marathon?) cart and finding wiring diagrams

Hi all,

Forgive my ignorance--I'm new at this but am looking for some help.

I recently acquired an EZ-go electric golf cart. Unfortunately it's a rusted-out hulk, so fixing it up is going to be quite the job. The first step is to identify the thing, but I'm having a bit of trouble.

I found a serial number (489874) and a Manufacturers number (H0988) under the passenger side glovebox (about where the passenger's left knee would be). If I'm reading other sources correctly, this means that the cart is a 1988 Marathon, but I am by no means sure. Most of the more pictorial Marathon wiring diagrams I've found (eg here) show what looks like a vertically oriented F/R switch, whereas mine seems to be horizontal. Again I'm pretty new to golf carts so I may be way off base here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Bonus points for links to appropriate wiring diagrams, though once I figure out what I have that should get much easier to do for myself.

Thanks for the reply. You're probably right but it still seems odd based on what I see inside. I'll post some pictures today or tomorrow morning (it's raining like heck right now so I can't run out just yet).

Thanks again.

Thanks!

In the meantime, does anyone happen to have any "under the hood" pictures of an '88 marathon on hand? I could at least compare in the meantime if this downpour doesn't stop.

Great--the rain stopped! Here are some pics:

Top-down view of the F/R level and terminals
Another view
The accelerator rocker, solenoid, and side of the controller
The motor
Front
Rear

Definitely an '88, or something else??

Yes on both. '88 body and something else for FNR selector, controller, potentiometer, solenoid....etc. I don't think you will find a schematic here for that setup. Looks like a previous owner got really creative on the electrical setup.

Unfortunately the wiring diagrams aren't always truthful. I have an 87 and went crazy finding the right one. Best bet, take a pic and post it.

Oh joy

Well at least that solves the mystery. Now the real work begins....

I may post updates down the line.

Thanks!

BuggyTraz, use this + OEM parts and she'll be good as new. Well, except for that slot in the seat wrap/kick panel.

phnguyk, ur 87 is a different animal. Lots of different ways to skin the resistor coil setup.

Good luck.
