Default Analog Battery Meter

I purchased an analog battery meter and installed this weekend, however, have a question about these. I charged my cart and it was showing a full charge but when I step on the pedal the thing goes to about half charge and then back to full when I let off. Is this normal or should the gauge go down slightly as the batteries run down?

I rode it for 30 minutes doing this and it did go down a little but want to make sure this is how it should work. I have the positive on the main battery positive and the negative on the main battery negative.

It's normal, the gauge is just a limited scale voltmeter. What you are seeing is voltage drop under acceleration.

I have seen some gauges do this and some do not. I know the led gauges do not fluctuate neither does the RXV analog gauges. But some of the cheaper ones do.

As long as it is correct when I take my foot off the pedal then I am okay with it. It is kind of interesting seeing the draw while on the pedal anyway.

If the meter does not fluctuate, then it is not working correctly. Anytime you put a load on a battery the voltage will drop.

theres a lot of different gages out there but for the cost the analog is the way to go....as mentioned when you 1st pull out and put a load on its gonna drop but it will recover......when it quits recovering than you,ll want to pay attention to your batteries if you don,t maintain them on a regular basis........................

I have an analog meter. It dips slightly, but, not much. The lower the charge state, the more it dips.

If yours dips with a full charge, I'd start saving my money for a new set of batteries in the near future. Check the water level and connections to make sure everything is OK.

The level of drop will be related to the size of the controller/motor in the cart. I run with a 700 Amp controller and believe me, even with new batteries at a full charge, when I step on the pedal that sucker DROPS.

It sounds like the turbo boost gauge on my F-250 Powerstroke. When you put your foot into it, the gauge shows the power being applied. Sounds pretty cool. Now you know to be easier on the pedal when you see the voltage drop a lot.

This is where these analogue gauges excel Watch that meter under load. When it dips into the red it is time to recharge. This type of gauge belongs on every stock DCS cart, if owners would recharge when the meter indicates the controllers would last as intended....
