New EZ Go Owner - Upgrade Thoughts
Hi all,
Been reading on the site, some really great folks on here to help it seems. I bought a 2005 36v EZGO PDS TXT. It has a light kit on it, and the flipflop back seat. I am looking at adding a 12v battery underneath the seat, but curious about how people charge it? I really didnt want to have to hookup a charger the "old school" way, is there a way to make it more professional, like a rubber plug on the side of the cart or something? Is there a charger that you can always have connected and just "plug" in when needed? I am also looking at some of those stereo installs, they are nice for the ones that posted. I am thinking of the Carbon Fiber Dash with locking doors, and somehow installing the radio in the new dash, but have never done anything like that. Also, I have gotten a 36v Gauge that I am looking to add to my cart. How do I actually connect it to the batter? Do they sell battery cables that you can hook up to the posts, and then attach to the accessory? Or is there a better way ? Anyway, looking forward to reading more. Thanks Tom |

Re: New EZ Go Owner - Upgrade Thoughts
I use a motorcycle battery with a 1.5 amp charger/maintainer strapped together in the space on the drivers side. I plug it in about 2-3 times per week depending on how much the stereo gets used. The charger has a short plug that I can drop down and hook up my extension cord. Works good and cost 70.00 total. I only have 2 speakers and a 50 watt amp that I plug my MP3 player into, so I don't need a large 12v battery. If you are using a large stereo with an amp and 4 speakers plus running your lights and a cell phone charger, you could use the same setup with an automotive 12volt battery and get good results.

Re: New EZ Go Owner - Upgrade Thoughts
I am not clear on the charger. I am pretty new to all the battery/electrical stuff, but the charger you mention sounds perfect, can you send me a link?
Just to be clear, I could use the same charge on the 12v battery? Thanks again for the help... |

I believe this is what arcitech is talking about running. I think I might run the same setup. All I have is the same small amp for mp3 player and 4 speakers, and a horn hooked up.

buy a 36v to 12v converter and be done with it. That is what I did and i am glad I did it this way. you can also hook the power to 2 batteries and get 12v. draws those 2 down quicker than the others. folks I know have done it this way for years with no problem. they tipically hook the lights to 2 other batteries.

Re: New EZ Go Owner - Upgrade Thoughts
this kit works well for me. also available with black speakers.
http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CDcQ8wIwAw# if that link does not work here it is on the mfg website. boaters world has them for $102 which is the cheapest I have seen them. I have installed @ 10 kits and they work great. http://www.polyplanar.com/productSin...?prt=MP3-KIT_A |

Re: New EZ Go Owner - Upgrade Thoughts
I basically went with the same kit on eBay but it came with 4 speakers and was $88 shipped.
So you think a convertor would be better than an extra 12V battery? |

Re: New EZ Go Owner - Upgrade Thoughts
I think it is much better. no extra battery, no extra charger, draws off the entire pack and my little playmate cooler rides in the spot where y'all are placing your battery. I switch mine on with a 3 position factory keyswitch as the convertor is on any time it is connected. They create heat and I am too paranoid to leave it powered full time. I just connected it to the pack with a barrel connector until I swapped out the switch.
