newby's cart DOA , sell or rebuild ?
bought an ezgo 97' 36 volt lifter for $1,800. . It had loose steering and ran great but would strain on our Big hills. ( which are everywhere ).My neighbor took the cart for a spin and lost control on a mogal and had the cart up on two wheels . then the cart slammed back down on two wheels. 5 minutes later motor is blowing smoke and wont move .I only owned it less then 3 weeks.
I towed it to mechanic for an estimate. Estimate and tow : $85.00 motor: 595.00 cotroller 460.00 selonoid 28.00 resister 64.00 steering box 226.00 three hrs. labor total : $1,752.00 Does this seem right? should i consider fixing this cart ? i was just told by another repair shop that it is not a good idea to have a lifted electric cart in the TX hill country. only gas. Is there a strong enough motor and controller to do the job long term in a hilly area ? i would hate to pay to fix only to destroy it again. also, we only joy ride in this cart . thanks for any advise. |

Re: newby's cart DOA , sell or rebuild ?
$98 an hour for labor??? Man I wanna work there......
Seriously though, there is nothing wrong with using an electric cart in the hills/mountains as long as you use a TORQUE motor and a Controller with enough amperage to keep it fed. Can you give us some better details regarding the parts they want to install (motor and controller)? The cost of the resistor (assuming it is for the solenoid) seems a bit high. |

go to the homepage and look for "used golf carts and parts", with an AC system, hill problems will be a thing of the past.
