Default I now know why- one should unplug Charger bfore unhooking terminals

Huh what did you say, I cant hear you? that is what I am like today-

Saturday, I did find out why out 89 Marathon was not charging properly.
The Receptacle was toast, cracked and basically fell apart when I tried to wiggle the plug- it would charge and then shut off or bounce. I determined faulty receptacle when it came apart in my hand! I just didn't fall off the turnip truck yesterday!

I then Gerry Rigged connections= so I had two battery charging style clamps on the unit.
THEY SAY ALWAYS UNPLUG THE CHARGER FROM THE WALL FIRST!!!!
I did not do this and Now Understand why! there was a small spark and BLAM
it broke the filler plugs on one battery and has a hairline crack in the top!

My ears are still ringing today- the battery pack tested at 41.8 when I checked it, So the pack is still Good?
the batteries ranged from 6.9 to 6.98 individually the cracked one was the 6.98

Can I or should I attempt to fix that small crack? or replace entire pack? (Please dont say replace entire pack)

Any great fixes for battery cases?

Please type real loud, It might be a couple days before hearing returns]

thanks Chris

The spark from connecting it set off the hydrogen gas inside the battery and if it still tests out OK then try sealing the crack on top with epoxy and all should be fine.

kinda like firing off a 12 gauge shotgun at close range huh?

Seriously, chances are the batteries are ok and a simple Epoxy of the case should allow some more life in the battery pack.

Sure glad the battery took the hit and not you. You got to be careful with batteries, they are a bomb just waiting to go off. Alot of people do not realize the danger involved with something as simple as just a battery. I have seen them explode, catch on fire, you name it. It is not pretty. Some of the electrical iron hauling dinkeys we have at work have huge 52 volt batteries with alot of current. Not to mention when they explode, the acid has to go somewhere. Be careful out there guys. Glad you were not the victim. The battery can be fixed or replaced. I am not so sure I would not replace?? Just my opinion. Thanks for sharing your story. Everybody can learn from this.
