Newbie needs a little help.
Hi Guys,
I'm new to the Golf Cart world and I need some help with my new to me EZ GO. What I have is, I think, a 1994 EZGO Marathon, the plate says EO594, S/N 797839. When I got the cart it had been neglected for many years and was in bad shape. I repaired the rusty frame, rebuilt the charger, put in new batteries and got it running. The other day it quit moving and now I am trying to figure out what happened. I looked at the wiring diagrams posted above but none look like my system. I have a Curtis 1204 controller with a Prestolite style solenoid. The little diode across the two small terminals of the solenoid is fried. When I test the voltage, I have 38.6 volts going into the solenoid and 38.6 on the other side of the solenoid, so it appears the solenoid is always energized (?). I tested the pot on the pedal and it goes from 5k ohms to 0 ohms, so I guess it is working. I have power into the controller, but I can't get the cart to move. I hate to start throwing parts at the cart and was hoping that someone can give me a direction as to where I should start looking. Also, I don't have a clue on what some of the acronyms mean so when I see DCS and non-DCS, or PDS, I don't know what folks are talking about. Sorry for the long first post, but I'm just trying to provide as much info as I can. Thanks, PB |

Re: Newbie needs a little help.
Welcome to BGW ... you came to the right place to get this sorted out...... there are several questions in your post that need answers.....
First the 94 is a TXT or medalist, can you post a pic of the cart? and the battery bay? 2nd...The original cart did not have a presto-lite solenoid or a 5k-0 throttle..... which leads me to believe somebody installed a CC potentiometer, solenoid, & controller? 3rd... The solenoid and diode need to be replaced. A 250 ohm resistor also needs to be in place between the 2 large solenoid posts. This is a starting place.... Any 36v GC solenoid will work. Stock system was 0-5k |

I have attached photos, below. I may have stated it wrong on the limit switch...it's 0 to 5k, not the other way around, sorry. The 250 ohm resistor is in place, but as you can see, the diode is fried. Sorry, not a Prestolite solenoid but a White Rodgers 70 style. BTW, what is a CC pot? Any assistance will be sincerely appreciated. Thanks, PB |

That looks like a marathon to me. Does it have coils in the back?

Re: Newbie needs a little help.
OK, I would get a new solenoid and diode first. The CC pot is a Club Car throttle controller (I think), my cart has an ITS and I think Scotty is saying if someone changed yours over from the stock setup to this, but you are saying it is 0-5k so it sounds stock. I'll yield to some more knowledgable folks.

Re: Newbie needs a little help.
OK, I just found out about the ShopEZGO.com site where you put in your serial number and it tells you what you have. It says "1994 4-wheel electric Marathon". So now I know what I have.
Does anyone know which of the wiring diagrams is correct for this model? I've looked at all the diagrams, but none look like what I have. Some are close, but the controller usually has some type of plug in affair, and mine does not have that. Thanks, PB |

Re: Newbie needs a little help.
Yes, it is a stock Marathon. I would start with a new stock solenoid if it is always 'on'. Replace the diode and check the micro switches at the potentiometer and the F&R
