Rear end oil weight advice
Hi All
I have a 1990 marathon electric 36 volt cart that Im restoring. I ordered a repair manual for that year, the manual says to use 80w90 rear end oil but on the different threads on this forum says 30w oil. Has there been a problem with the 80w90 in rear ends not getting the lube up to the top bearing because the bearings on this cart are dry and bad. So would the 30w lubricate better or is that what the new model carts are using. Give your ideas on this please , I want to use the right lube that will get to the upper bearing to keep them lubed and not go bad . Thanks for ant help Pat |

Re: Rear end oil weight advice
80w is too heavy, it cant sling properly... less than 30 is too thin it wont grip... 30w is the ideal oil for all your problems mentioned.... and for normal operation...
to help those bearings mix some lucas oil stabilizer in, that gets some noises out sometimes.. |

I run an 80/90 full synthetic which works quite well and reduces noise. It is pricey though.

Re: Rear end oil weight advice
What about a SAE 50w ? Would this be better not to thick and not to thin.
I use this in the differentials on front end loaders and it works great. However I dont know how this would work on a smaller diff. |

Re: Rear end oil weight advice
How often should you change out the rear differential oil ? I have a hour meter under my set that says I have 283 hours on my cart and I assume it has never been changed, but I'm not sure.
