Default Switch problem?

I have a 98 Txt Ezgo and did not have the key. In order to see if the motor was good, etc. used two wires at the solenoid to engage and run the cart. In the meantime, repaired the battery box, took off the body and will be painting soon. Bought a key but the switch does not engage the solenoid. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Could be the solenoid is no good? can you test the solenoid activation? It takes a pos and a neg at each of the 2 small terminals to engage the solenoid

ScottyB,

I connected a wire to one of the small termials and another to the postive side of the solenoid and when I connect the wires, the solenoid activates and the cart works. When I try just the key, nothing happens.

Check the reed switch by connecting a positive jumper to the red wire at the back of the charge receptacle.... if that is good then check the micro switch at the peddle box.

I have the charge receptable off of the cart since I took off the body. Is this possibly the problem?

Connect the red wire at the back side of the charger receptacle to positive and try the standard start.

I assume you have the body off for upgrades/testing..... Take a 12" piece if 12 gauge wire. Put a 5/16 ring connect on 1 end and a shielded female spade on the other. Attach the ring connect to your main positive post on the battery pack and the shielded femal spade to the microswitch closest to the battery pack on the F&R on the opposite side of the blue wire.

Congratulations, you have now successfully bypassed the Reed Switch. Your cart should now run.
