Default 1993 EZ Go not moving

Hello all,

I need help. I have a 1993 EZGO electric golf cart. It was working great and then all of the sudden it stopped working. There is absolutley no sound or clicking when I turn the ignition key or press the pedal. I replaced the Solenoid, but I get same thing. Batteries are charged and charger works when plugged in. We tested the key ignition with a volt meter and we got some ohms. Any advice on what I should look at next? Should I replace the microswitches, the Potentimeter or anything else? when the cart is in reverse we do get a continuous beeping. Any advice on what would be the next best possibility would be appreciated.

Try following this to see where your system cuts out ;

TXT solenoid activation circuit
Power starts on the White wire on the 36+ of the battery pack.
Power travels to the charger receptacle, goes through a reed switch inside the receptacle and comes out on the red 12 gauge red wire. ( check for power here, 1st!)
The red wire travels back through the loom to the Forward and reverse switch where it attaches to a micro.
The other side of that micro has a blue wire attached that runs under the cart to the front and arrives at the keyswitch.
The keyswitch then transfers power to a green wire which returns to the area of the Forward and Reverse switch.
the power then goes through a 4 pin Molex connector and travels to the "pedal Box" (located under the floorboard of the car) where it goes through a micro and comes out on another red wire.
That red wire comes back up to the Controller/F&R area where it once again goes through the 4 pin molex connector and continues on to the small post of the solenoid.

Thank you for your your reply Scotty!

I thought I had tracked this down to the micro switch on the FNR assembly so I replaced both micro switches since I had it a part. The cart still does not work but now when I hook up th wiring from the pot box to the double microswitch, I hear a continuous beeping. Can anyone tell me what this indicates? Do I have the wiring wrong or is the Pot box bad or any other suggestions? As you can tell I am new to this and I am just lost as to what is wrong and am not good at using a voltmeter. BTW, I have replaced the Solenoid, the accelerator microswitch, the ignition key, and both microswitchs on the FNR assembly. The only other items I can think of are the Pot Box, the speed controller and the motor. The batteries had lost thier charge to a point where the charger wouldn't work, but I used a trickle charger to get them back and then plugged in the regular charger when it would sense the batteries. Could it be the batteries? They were just bought new at the beginning of the year.

Also, can someone help with what this cart is? I thought it was a marathon, non PDS, but it just doesn't match some of the diagrams. I now it is a 93, plasctic body. This cart does not have any fuses, and also where is said the pedal microswitch was under the pedal in a box, it wasn't, there is no box under the pedal, which confused me as all i have read says there should be, it was right by the speed controller, pot box.

Any help you can give me would be really appreciated as this is getting really frustrating, it has been down for a month now.

Pictures of the battery compartment and the speed controller/pot box would help. It sounds like you have a marathon with the TXT body on it ?

ummm that solenoid activation won't work on a 93. 93 was a marathon cart. depending on the wiring of the cart, there are various methods to determine the problem.

Start by checking voltage at the solenoid. Put the test probes on the 2 small posts of the solenoid. Press the accelerator (with key on and cart in gear). What voltage are you seeing?

I will go out and see if I can test the Solenoid now. Here are some pictures for you. I did notice that the microswitch that I replaced on the potentiometer does not seem to be getting activated so I must have placed it wrong. It must attach to something that I am not aware of, any help there?

Also, why would I be hearing a continuous beep when I hook up the pontentiometer to the double micro switch on the fnr switch? Could it be because I don't have the potentiometer micro switch connected right?

ok a couple of things.

First, bypass the micro on the F&R for power completely. Run new wire from the blue wire side of the keyswitch directly to the blue wire side of the Pot micro. While this will eliminate one of the "safety" features built into the system, it won't cause harm to the cart.

Second, ignore the 2 wires from the Pot Box to the double micro. They are not required and you really don't need to overcomplicate the system.

Third, that is the wrong solenoid for that cart. That solenoid is a stock 100 AMP solenoid and the cart really does need a White Rodgers 586 HD solenoid.

After doing the above, if you are still not running, take a reading of the voltage on the 2 small posts of the solenoid and let us know the results.

Thanks Rabbitreborn,

I am at work but will go home and try what you recommend. Can you answer some questions though? Would the different solenoid not make the cart run? The new solenoid is exaclty the same as the one I took off so this confuses me. Does the 100 amp vs the HD 200 amp make the difference?

Also, can you explain a little more why I would not hook up the two wires to the double microswitch? I thought that is what controlled the potentiometer? Also, can you answer why I get the continual alarm sound from the potentiometer now when I hook it up with those wires when I didn't before? I am a newbie so thank you for all of your help. I am getting pretty frustrated that I can't get this thing going after I thought I replaced everything that could be causing the issue.

sorry, one more thing. I am being told there is a fuse in this cart, but on another site it says there is not one in this model. And some articles tell me there is access to the peddal microswitch through the floor under the pedal. I have removed everything and there is not access. What in the heck kind of cart do I have? Did they make a Frankencart?
