Default 1994 ezgo medalist 36volt won't move shorted out

I have a 1994 ezgo medalist controller cart with the f/r by your legs. I am having a stalling issue with the cart after you drive it for about 15 min when I come to a stop then try to take off again you have to hit the gas several times before it moves. You can then ride for a while and it does the same thing. When I hit the gas and the cart does not move I can still hear the solenoid click. A local golf cart shop told me it was probably the f/r switch or the solenoid so last night I replaced the f/r switch first and then drove still having the same issue. Next I went for the solenoid when replacing the solenoid I made a major mistake I replaced the old solenoid and hooked the batteries up turned the key on and tested to make sure it moved and it did then without unhooking the batteries I went to just make sure I had the connections on the solenoid snug before I went for a test ride and dropped the socket between the power from the batteries on one big post on solenoid and the small post with the two black wires on it and had a catastrophic arc. Now I have no click from the solenoid and cart will not move tried to put old solenoid in and still nothing both solenoids do click when bench tested. What did I fry when I arced those two posts. Any help is greatly appreciated and I thank you all in advance.

You most likely fried your new solenoid, if there is no click, there is no operation. You can check continuity between the 2 small posts, if it is open, you will need a new solenoid. If there is continuity, then check from each small post to each large post. If there is continuity you fused the internals and a new solenoid is in your future.

By the way, unbolt both of your main wires coming from the battery pack before doing any troubleshooting. (I think you learned that the hard way!)

Both new and old solenoids do click when I test them but not when in the cart. And yea I had both main cables unhooked but had a dumb*** attack when I went to check over the connections you live you learn I guess.

Solenoids work but stop activating after 15 min of driving? Replace the peddle box micro switch.

I think Scottyb hit the nail on the head getting your solenoid clicking on the cart again. But my opinion your 15 minute run time is your stock controller overheating. If you have the original speed controller in the cart it has had a good life. I had intermitted problems until my controller completely fried one day in my 95 Metalist. I could smell burning electronic smell for awhile until mine didn't move the cart no more. Sometimes if your not careful trying to fix
one problem can create another problem.
