My old to new project
Howdy,
I wish I had taken pictures of my "budget" project cart before I got it mostly done, but I didn't. I took an 86 EZ-GO that ran, but was UGLY, and scrapped the old rusted metal body for a newer 96up body that I got off ebay for $90. It took quite a bit of grinding, cutting, and welding, but it turned out fitting pretty well. I added a new dash with carbon fiber overlay, a Sony marine stereo and Pyle marine waketower speakers. I had a custom roll bar (just for looks, not for rolling) bent up at a local muffler shop. I had custom interior work done by a friend. The wheels and tires are new 10 inch with 23 inch tires off of a mule 4x4. I got the gas shocks from NAPA. The 4" lift is from ebay. |

Re: My old to new project
Nice work. What kind of batteries are those. I assume your running 48 volts now, or are two for accessories.

Re: My old to new project
I'm running 48v. It adds a bunch of torque. I'm not sure what the top speed is yet. I need to get the gps out of my boat and check it out. I still have the original motor and resistors, so I may have a few more mods in the future.

I forgot to add. I still have the hood and both rear fenders if anyone needs them. The hood is perfect. The fenders have some rust on the front lower edges. You pay to ship and they are yours.

Re: My old to new project
One more time. They are Interstate batteries from Sams. They were $62 each. Seem to do a pretty good job so far.

Re: My old to new project
Thats a good price for batteries. I recently paid $67-68 for new exides for napa. I couldn't find interstates locally, I tried and the locals didn't want to order at a decent price.

Re: My old to new project
awesome ride...I have a 1984 ez-go...great shape and runs good, but slow! I know it's on here somewhere, but 77 omega what did you do to convert to 48 volts in yours...in laymen terms!!?
Thanks! |

Re: My old to new project
It was simple. I ran the negative lead from battery 6 in the 36v series (where the negative from your charger connects) to the positive lead of battery 7. 7 negative to 8 positive. 8 negative to the motor lug where the battery 6 negative hooked up before. Leave your charger connections as they were before. You can charge the first 6 batts with your 36v charger and use a 12v to charge 7 and 8. Put the positive on 7 positive and the negative on 8 negative. Works great for me so far.
