Default Tire valve stem question

Hi Folks,
I haven't posted (needed help) in a while. My Dad has a 97 TXT with a bad tire valve stem. I checked the manual and nothing said about replacing it. Googling around, I found a tool called a "tire valve tool" for about $22. I thought all I needed to do was pull the wheel, deflate the tire, and push the outside of the tire in and pop out the old valve and put in a new one. Anyone ever done this? Should I seek professional help (local golf cart dealer).
Thanks in advance,
Rick in Surfside Beach

You can do that. Buy a generic valve stem and installation tool? Or just take it down to your local tire shop? They should do it for less than the cost of the stem & tool.

Once inside the tire/rim, use a hacksaw to cut off the inside. Lube up the new stem (there are various sizes) install it and 'pull' the stem till it seats. I use soap to lubricate the stem for easier installation. You will need either a metal valve cap or small 'T' shaped valve tool threaded on the valve stem (to protect the threads), so you can use a claw hammer or plier to lever the stem in place.

Thank you so much. I'm going to pull the wheel and let my favorite local golf cart shop do it.
I am so glad I asked for advice.

Just a suggestion here. Try a lawn mower repair shop. The good shops have a small wheel tire machine and locally it's only $5.00.

I use Tires Plus for all my mounts. They never charge me for doing it (I always tip the mechanic that does the work $5 per tire) and they guarentee their work for me.
