Default question for the ezgo gurus

Guys,
I was riding my lifted series cart around the hunting club this weekend. I was going up an incline, and wanted to back up to look down a shooting lane. I let off the accelerator and the cart started coasting. When it reached a fast speed, the motor kicked in to slow the cart, sort of like my Club Car does with regen breaking. I tried it again to make sure that was what was happening.

I assume this is a safety feature?? If so is their a way to add a manual switch or lever to make it do this in 'forward' in case of a brake failure?

(I ask because I have a lot of steep hills, and my 8 year old & 6 year old daughters like to ride with me a lot, I have spoken with Scotty about disc brakes, but may not need them if I had this.)

What if I put the cart in reverse? I read on the Alltrax site, that without the plug brake option, it could cause motor and controller damage? ( I have the AXE 500 amp without the plug brake option)

Is this a pds cart? I know the feature you are talking about but I do not know if you can trick it to come on in forward. It only operates in reverse. Maybe you should call Alltrax on this one?

Thanks, Scotty. It is a series cart with AXE 500, 48 volts on 36 volt stock motor. I will call Alltrax and ask them.

It sounds to me like the plug braking was kicking it. Try the same thing but roll downhill forward with the direction selector in reverse and see if it does it.

Typically we do not use plug breaking in golf carts..... these controllers are often used in forklifts and floor scrubbers, etc. So they have features like plug breaking not used in golf cart applications.
