Wont Pull itself
EZ Go electric golf cart wont pull itself. I have checked all with a volt meter and replaced batteries. All checks good. When I jack it up the speed increases and everything seems to work fine. Then I take it off the jack and put in on the ground and it will not hardly pull itself. I also hear a fluttering noise coming from around the electric motor. I pulled the motor last night and am dropping it off to have it checked today. Can anyone provide any input if I am on the right track.
Thanks |

Re: Wont Pull itself
We need more information to help. what year and model is the cart? Are their any modifications to the cart? And what is the age & standing voltage reading of the battery pack?
Sounds like a battery problem to me? |

Re: Wont Pull itself
I am not sure of the year, it is at a friends house at the moment in his garage, so I dont have the model at the moment either. However I do know that it has a 1206 work horse design brain and selenoid if that helps.
Standing volts 37.5, no midifications have been made. thanks |

Re: Wont Pull itself
When you mash the pedal take a reading of your battery pack voltage. Let us know what that is. Make sure you are not dropping bunches of voltages. Sounds like a battery issue to me too.

Re: Wont Pull itself
The flutter could be a stripped drive hub on either side (probably the driver's side). Put the cart down on it's wheels, remove the rear hub caps, and have someone push the throttle down while you observe the center of the wheels for axle rotation. If the crown nut is spinning and the wheel remains stationary the hub/drum on that side is stripped.

Re: Wont Pull itself
Welcome to the forum Nick ..... BGW rocks!
Does the flutter happen after driving the cart around or does it flutter immediately under acceleration? The flutter thing happened on a EZGO cart I had, and the battery pack ended up being the problem ..... The remedy of checking for the spinning axle nut the hub is another diagnostic trick I haven't heard. Thats good stuff. You came to the right place. Gorno, scottyb ..... I see the stripped hub diagnosis suggested on a lot of these threads....... Are these hubs that inferior ......... or just the weakest link in the drive system? |

Re: Wont Pull itself
My wife has a habit of leaving her foot slightly on the gas as she changes from reverse to forward, and in our modified cart the torque stress is quite a bit. I'm not blaming it on HER, but she isn't helping them last any longer. Of course, the full throttle starts at the various cart competitions don't help either.....
Yes, the hubs are the weak link in the drivetrain. |
