Ratchet sound from rear end
'96 EZ GO TXT
When I let off the accelerator and coast, I get sort of a ratchet sound from the rear end. Like gears that are supposed to be throwing away from each other, are rubbing toghether. When I hit the accelerator again, sometimes I get a brief rough gear engagement sound, then all is well untill I let off, and get the ratchet sound again... Where should I start? |

Re: Ratchet sound from rear end
Welcome to BGW!
Is this a series cart or a DCS cart? One thing you could try would be to remove the motor and tow the cart up to speed to see if the noise disappears. The motor should remove easily. Be careful doing this of course. |

Re: Ratchet sound from rear end
I'm new to carts. So I'm not familiar with the terminology. The batteries are connected in series. Is that what you mean?
There is a housing between the motor and the differential that looks like it covers a drive chain or belt.. The ratchet noise sounds a little like loose chain rubbing on housing... dddddddddddddddddddd... kind of a soft ratchet noise as apposed to a grinding... but only when I let off the power... |

Re: Ratchet sound from rear end
Sounds a little like you have an axle/brake drum spline going bad.

Re: Ratchet sound from rear end
I would look at you brake drums. One mayb trying to strip. This is easier than goin into the rear.
There is no chain or belt in the diff. It is all gear to gear contact. |

A "DCS" cart would have a small silver hockey puck sized assembly directly behind the Forward/Reverse control. A DCS cart would also have a toggle switch on the controller cover under the passenger seat. |

Re: Ratchet sound from rear end
OK, I'll pull the diff pan, check it and refill....
Where's a good place to order the gasket? more clues: I have the cart on blocks.. no resistance at the wheels... When I floor it, it gets up to maximum speed, and just as it starts to float out, it shudders and slows from the resistance the shuddering introduces.... And it's a DCS.... |

Re: Ratchet sound from rear end
There no diff gasket, it is RTV or silicone.
