Default dcs vs series

What are the differences between a dcs and a series cart? I know that a series cart has the fnr switch behind the knee. I believe a dcs cart also has the fnr switch in the same location but adds a run tow switch also. What are any other major differences or possible upgrade pitfalls with either or?

DCS carts have regenerative braking which uses the motor as a generator to restrict downhill speeds. A byproduct of this configuration is a slight charge-back into the pack, but I have never seen the benefit via longer runtimes. Series carts have more upgrade options, but they employ a mechanical Forward/Reverse switch that needs upgrading if you employ higher performance components. Series carts will freewheel on a downhill as fast as your skills will allow, but they CAN grenade if spun too fast. Series carts are VERY simple systems.

Yes, and gutted is the correct term. You would only save the battery pack, charger, and charging port. All other wiring harnesses need to be changed as well as the motor, controller, and F/R switch. $$$

A cart I am looking at already doesn't have batteries or a charger. Are there harnesses that need to be replaced or just a bunch of new loose wires to run? New motor I guess also? I was planning on doing a 48 volt conversion since I needed batteries and a charger already. Anymore input would be great

The dcs was only made for a couple of years until the pds came out. Not very reliable carts we get them in broke all the time. But its the same frame as txt. We used an old dcs to build a wheelie car wih four 12 volt trojans. It would be a good starting point for a project

Again, is it just a matter of completely rewiring the cart and a new motor, or do I have to buy all new harnesses and a new motor?

There is only a handful of wires in the secondary circuit. You need a motor, controller, solenoid, F&R assembly from a marathon( mount behind the handle) or a series TxT with the linkage rod assembly and mounting bracket. Rabbit says it is easier to use his solenoid F&R set up. This can be done by anyone able to compare 2 diagrams and split the difference
You gotta get the DCS cart cheap .... I would just build up the DCS with a more resilient controller and a battery meter ...... they are very torquey and fast. I have even seen them on 48 volts.
