Default 12V ACC problems- stereo cuts out when lights turned on

I have been working on adding a 12V motorcycle battery with a Blue Sea fuse box which includes the negative grounds. The accessories are a horn, 12V cig lighter, 55W halogens and a CD/DVD player. The car stereo and lights are switched to the dash and the car stereo works fine on it's own and the lights work fine on their own. If the lights are on, the stereo doesn't come on, even if the switch is lit. If the stereo is on and then the lights are turned on after that then the stereo buttons stay lit, but the stereo cuts off. Turn the lights off and the stereo comes back on.

The motorcycle battery is charged, reads 12.1 on multimeter.
All grounds go directly to the fuse box and the fuse box ground goes directly to the battery.

Any help?

PS I have pix of the cart but nothing uploaded yet!

Not enough battery capacity. I have a stereo in my car hauler does the same when the battery gets low,and I use the winch or interior 12 volt lights. the stereo is voltage drop sensitive.

i,m only guessing but i would think it has to be in the wiring somewhere so i would go over all the wiring 1st than just for the heck of it i would try grounding strait to a battery just to see if that helps at all....why didn,t you run these things right off 2 batteries or use a 36 to 12 volt 15 to 25 amp reducer? it might solve your problems might not as i said i,m just thinking about it and guessing at a few things you might be able to do...............................

Shawn has the answer. The battery doesn't have the Ah rating to support all that draw at the same time, and the stereo amp is shutting down because of voltage drop.

Measure the voltage across the battery when the lights AND stereo are turned on at the same time. I bet it's around 10.5 to 11.0 vdc.

You could put the lights on the main battery back, or the stereo, and that might free up some amps for your stereo. 36 volt cart?

Its a 36v 90 marathon. I'm not sure I want to spend the money on an older cart to make it 48v. But in the meantime, I did check the vdc across the batt with the lights/stereo on and it dropped from 12 to 8. I tried a different charger and thought the batt was dead at that point. Charged overnight now all is good! Simple, thanks for the tips!
