Is 97 DCS Cart incapable? Please Help!!
Hey guys,
Everyone has been really helpful so far. But I have a 1997 TXT DCS that I picked up for about 200 bucks. So far the only thing I have added is an alltrax 400 controller and 4ga wiring. But I would like to upgrade to 48v and add lift tires and so forth to get ready for hunting. But the more people I talk to about parts the more I am told that a dcs cart is not worth the trouble. I keep hearing that it just won't be able to handle 48v, 22in tires and off road. It needs really needs new batteries now but I can't afford to sink any unneeded money into it if its just gonna cause problems. Please everyone lend ur experience and knowledge on this cart. Will this cart still be a problem even after the alltrax 400 controller? Please help!!!!! |

The controller was the weak link in the DCS cart.
The DCS motors and the PDS motors are slightly different but both are still sepex. IMO, theoretically speaking (meaning I'm not totally sure), I don't see any issues with a 48v upgrade other than it's a little harder on the motor. Although no one builds a series cart anymore, people prefer using these when building hunting carts with the heavy the torque demands. |

So, since I have already upgraded the controller to 400A, then should this DCS cart be just as capable to handle the upgrades and off road use as say a newer PDS? I am ready to order most all the parts to complete the upgrades, just dont wanna get everything installed just to find out that this cart cant handle the upgrades and starts burning up the alltrax controller

Theoretically, the higher voltage will draw less amperage and run the motor and controller cooler. You better have a perfect battery pack and run between the suggested voltage limits only.
You are probably getting the idea that nobody wants to tell you you are good to go..... those motors are just not designed for what you want to do with it... It may work for a long time or it may work for a short time. I don't know. We have sent them out on the golf course on 48v.... but in the woods and creeping around will be doubly hard on it... You are experimenting until you can find somebody to tell you otherwise. |

Well not really looking for a go ahead as i am experience. I would really like to hear from someone who has done this and what the results were. I just talked to alltrax tech support and was told that it shouldnt be any problem at all with the right settings in the controller. (waiting on email from alltrax with suggested controller settings and other requirements for these upgrades and use at the moment) gonna see what they send me Thanks for the input so far guys. I have really learned alot from this site. Has anyone ever done this with a DCS and what were their results?

Just thinking that it is probably pretty safe to carry on with the DCS motor and you may not have any problems, it's just a bit of a crap shoot. If you fuse the motor with a 400 amp fuse and something ever goes wrong with the motor (lock up/dead short) it would sacrifice the fuse before it took out the controller. Then, if ever you fry the motor, get an upgraded motor from someone like Plum Quick and you're good to go. Seems like win-win to me. |

I have a 98 TXT ex-DCS converted to series, 48v, rolling 26's, upgraded the stock motor to a speed/torque motor and couldn't be happier. Do it!

Converting to series just seems to be so much more expensive tho. If u don't mind me asking what did it cost u to swap over to series. Besides my controller is almost brand new and would hate to buy another one lol
