Getting ready for 36v/48v conversion & 500a Controller etc install
Well I am getting ready for my 36v/48v conversion and upgrades like controller and Scotty has hooked me up just right and hopefully the PQ guys are sending me a little present, maybe sending today .
When my dealer hooked up my headlights he just went off 2 x 6v batteries. So I need to move the lights/blinkers to a voltage reducer. I am upgrading my 10amp voltage reducer with a 25amp one as I do have a cooler and some other accessories. I will have the voltage reducer then going to a fuse block with neg/bus. I have a few questions so I will start with the first question so I am not confused 1) Can I take the positive wire for lights off the battery terminal and just hook it into my fuse block and leave the negative wire on the pack? currently I have the following 5 negative wires coming off my pack, Battery charger Volt Meter Voltage Reducer Negative (which I assume is the lights and electrics for the cart) 4awg I would appreciate your advice, thanks |

I can't answer your question because I have a 12 acc battery but have fun with the new setup!

You can and should move 1 Negative (which I assume is the lights and electrics for the cart) 2 Battery Volt meter 3 Voltage reducer to a separate negative (ground) bus. Be sure you use one guage larger wire diameter than the voltage reducer uses on it's 48 volt neg side, between the pack neg terminal and your neg buss. Any other 48 volt accessories you add later should connect here also. The more connections you have at the pack terminals the more problems you will have keeping a good tight trouble free connection. Did you decide to use a solenoid switched off of your key to provide power to the voltage reducer? Barry |

If the lights are 12 volts they will connect to your voltage reducer positive 12 volt output buss.

Ok I am waiting for my 25amp voltage reducer to arrive so I still have the 10amp voltage reducer hooked up. To try it I took the + light wire off the pack and connected it to the + output of the voltage reducer to test it. The blinkers worked but when I put the headlights on while the blinkers were on the lights slowly dimmed up and down, is this because my 10amp voltage reducer cannot handle the load? Or have I done something wrong. Also how do I set up a negative ground bus from the pack? thanks |

Re: Getting ready for 36v/48v conversion & 500a Controller etc install
Normal head lights and parking lights will be too much current draw for the 10 amp reducer. I haven't done the math, not knowing wattage of head lights ect, but you should be ok with 25 amp voltage reducer. The negative buss bar is wired directly from the pack 48 v negative terminal (same terminal as charger negative and 4 gauge wire) to the Buss bar you installed in a easy to access location. See my previous post for items connected to this bus bar.

Re: Getting ready for 36v/48v conversion & 500a Controller etc install
I have set up the negative bus bar and no problems there.
I have run the wires to my fuse block and hooked my accessories Cooler and works great 12v accessory plug works great Then I disconnected the positive wire to the battery that ran the headlights, horn and blinkers, so I attached these to the fuse block I attached the Blinkers and they work great I attached the horn and it clicks but it doesn't work I attached the headlights but they don't work I am not sure if the little 10amp voltage reducer I have can't handle it, but how would I tell, anyone have any idea. My 25amp voltage reducer is not here yet. |

When you try the headlights that don't work use the voltmeter to test how much voltage is being sent to them on the output side of the regulator? |
