2001 EZGO moves but shudders
I hope somebody can start me in the right direction. My son was using my 2001 PDS, ran the batteries down and then towed it without switching to "TOW". I checked the system and the controller was dead. Replaced the controller and now the cart moves but shudders with no acceleration. Reverse or forward makes no difference. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Batteries are showing a charge of 37+. Thanks.

Re: 2001 EZGO moves but shudders
I'm not sure. The cart moves but it does not accelerate, just m-m-m-oves in little stutters, not smooth at all. The cart ran well but my son says one of the cables came loose and started to melt the terminal. He tightened the cable, then ran the cart down. He towed it about a half a mile and now we have this issue. Prior to installing the controller, it wouldn't move at all. I'm stuck!

If you are lucky you might have a bad battery..... rig the voltmeter up to the pack and try to drive it..... what kind of low voltage readings do you get?

try to charge each batt individually, then definitely check ALL connections, had one of my fleets do that and found a loose jumper wire that was welded to the post of a batt

Have you tried putting the cart in diagnostic mode?
Sounds like the motor burnt up though. |

Re: 2001 EZGO moves but shudders
Thanks for the input. I am charging the batteries today and will check the voltage this afternoon. The funny thing is if this was a gas cart, I'd think I had a bad plug. The cart wants to go but it seems as if the current is getting interupted and I'm not getting a continual feed. Are there "brushes" or "contacts" in the motor that might be dirty or just burned out?

Re: 2001 EZGO moves but shudders
Just checked after charging and each battery shows 6.4 with a total run showing 37.8 +/-. Rabbitreborn, you asked about diagnostic mode, but I have never had to do that and am not sure what's involved. I will search this site and see what's involved and let you know what I find out.
Thanks again guys |

With the key off and the parking brake on. switch the F&R toggle from neutral to reverse 5 times. A couple of seconds after the 5th time you will hear a series of beeps the first series will identify which performance chip is in it. After that you will get diagnostic fault codes, If you have any, (like 3pause2 beeps) which correspond to the codes printed on your controller environmental cover. To exit diagnostic mode flip the run tow switch.
