Cleaning the Motor
I'm rebuilding my 1997 DCS and the motor has a build up of dirt and grime inside. It runs fine but should I take it apart and clean it up or just leave it alone and if so could I us brake cleaner on the components?

Re: Cleaning the Motor
Try not to use too harsh of a chemical cleaning it so as not to remove any coating on the coils. First use a dust mask then blow it out with air.....as far as brake cleaner or any other chemical use your best judgment. I have used it without issue.

Re: Cleaning the Motor
Should I take the cover off or just do what I can from the open end? I know this sounds like a dumb question but in the process of rebuilding I've had a few issues with old and rusty nuts and bolts.

Re: Cleaning the Motor
If it was me I would completely disasemble the motor to clean. It can't hurt. I take a 3m scotch bright pad and clean the armature where the brushes ride. Also while your n there, replace the bearing. they are fairly cheap.
When I do them I use compressed air to clean the case and use electronics cleaner on the armature after i have cleaned the brush end with a pad. |
