Default Did I get screwed? What next....

Hi all -- let me first say this forum is AWESOME! Everything you ever wanted to know about golf carts and more....

So -- I'm a newbie -- my wife got me an Ez-Go for my b-day. It's supposed to be a 2007 Ez-Go that she had customized. Basically they painted the body Dallas Cowboy colors and put some decals on it. I'm 99% sure it's not a 2007 -- the batteries say D6 on them -- so they are Dec 2006 batteries. Also -- from what I read it's most likely a TXT series cart. It has the FNR back by your knees and no tow switch on the controller box -- am I right? And to top it off -- the guy I got it from removed the serial number plate -- probably to hide what he was selling her.... No lift, tires look new, but they have chrome hub-caps, and no rear seat. She paid $3600 and I think most likely I paid $500-800 too much. As a side note -- DO NOT BY FROM EASTERGOLFCARTS.COM -- (based in MD) or from Curtis Ligier.... RIP OFF ARTIST! My wife ordered the cart in July and I didn't get it till Oct. Had it 2 weeks and it was struggling with a relatively small hill that my driveway goes up (100' or so). Anyway -- guy takes it back to "fix" it (add a controller) and basically goes AWOL. I had to go "repo" my cart from downtown Baltimore -- had to take the police -- a crazy situation....

At any rate -- I've got it back -- and I want to begin the process of setting it up for what I want it to do..... I'm gonna drive in on the roads for the most part.... some hills -- nothing major. Being super-fast is not required -- BUT -- I'm a guy -- so yeah -- more speed would be good. So -- I'm thinking this is my game plan -- tell me what you think.... First -- upgrade the cables to either 4 or 2 guage. Secondly -- upgrade the controller (Alltrax) to a 400amp or more..... Then upgrade the seleniod and the FNR switch..... Next -- my batteries are 06's, so that would be most likely my next step -- (going to a 48v setup too)...... Then upgrade the motor..... Add a 6" lift and some new tires/rims.... So -- did my hours of reading on this forum teach me anything? Any input on my "plan" would be appreciated....

D6 means April 2006. Not December. For example, If it said K6, what month starts with K? Here's how it works.
A6=January 2006
B6=February 2006
C6=March 2006
Get it?
If he removed the serial number plate, it was a scam. There are a few other places it could be. Right under the cart's charge receptacle should be a sticker with a barcode and some big bold numbers. Those numbers are your serial. If he removed that too, pop up your seat, and look toward the motor, there is a black plastic flap that covers the motor, right under that should be a sticker with a serial number, year, model, EVERYTHING. If not, post pics of ALL parts of the cart and maybe we can be of more help.

OK, first, the 2007 model year cart started production in July of 2006 so it is possible to have 2006 batteries in a 2007 cart, but D6 batteries would normally be too old for a 2007.

Second, E-Z-GO (in my opinion) really screwed up with the serial numbers ever since 2003 when they switched it stickers..... That being said, there are 4 possible locations for the serial number sticker to be.
1. Under the charger recpticle (although since the cart was painted, this sticker was likely removed to do the paint).
2. Rare, but I have seen some on the steering column (the new RXV's have then located there)
3. Under the flap of the inspection cover there is usually a full detail sticker that tends to fade out located on the passenger side (bring a magnifying glass)
4. If all else fails, look on the frame under the floorpan on the drivers side of the cart. There should be a sticker with the serial number there.

Now, if ALL of the 4 methods above are gone, there is 1 last resort........ E-Z-GO is supposedly stamping the serial number into the frame of the carts. It requires you to remove the rear body of the cart and look at the frame right above the passenger side rear wheel. I know for a fact they were doing this in '04 and '05, but I cannot verify they are still doing it after that.

Oh and EZGOKID, please don't speak out of turn, there are a number of different reasons for the serial number sticker under the charger recpticle to not be there..... a Scam is just one of many reasons. I know you are trying to be helpful, but when you type, people have no idea you are a 13 year old that just bought his first cart and really have limited experiance n working on golf carts.

Ummm I have actually had 5 carts now. The reason I was mentioning the scam was because if you actually read the OP's first post, he explained how the seller took the cart back to fix it and never returned it and the OP had to go pick it up himself. Sounds to me like a scam. And also, I am strongly against age discrimination because there is a 12 year old who is in college. I am not trying to be mean at all rabbit, but I respectfully request that you not shun me because of my age.

I am not Shunning you based on your age, I am just saying that there is limited experience behind the posts you are making, yet you present yourself in a manner that would lead people to believe you have been working on carts for the last few decades. As for the 12 year old in college, that is totally irrellevant to this discussion, however, were he here posting, I would say the same thing to him. Experience comes with age, it isn't something you get based on 1 (or as you say 5) carts.....

As for the Scam issue, you said:

To any rational person reading that post, it would appear that you are claiming that if he removed the serial number plate he was performing a scam. Hence my comments regarding the reasons why a serial number decal from a 2007 cart might have been removed.

Sorry if you took offense, but I stand by my opinions.

Alright -- I'll see what I can find tomorrow..... maybe take some pictures and post them as well. I'm fairly certain this guy IS a scam artist.... the more I check on him the more bad things I hear. But -- I got my cart back -- so now it's time to upgrade it...

Anyone want to chime in on my "plan"?

4 gauge is fine, 2 gauge is overkill but you have to decide how much you want to spend.

400 amp is fine, 500 would be better for added torque when you actually add the lift and wheels. If you go 500, dial it back to 80% output until you do the motor upgrade.

These really should be done at the same time as the controller otherwise they will be the weak link in the system. remember that if you are going to 48 volt, you are going to have to either get another solenoid at that time or get creative with wiring the power to the activation of the solenoid.

Quality batteries will make a huge difference, do yourself a favor and spend a little extra for a quality set.

I highlighted a key word for you. And your ignorance is getting in the way of your posts. I explained why I said it was a scam. Everything you said about me has been an opinion. What is "as I say 5 carts" supposed to mean? Would you like me to prove it? I try to help people, and be as accurate as I can with my posts. If you find something wrong, you don't have to get butt hurt and start flaming me about it. Explain it to me and I won't make the mistake again. And how would you know about my experience with carts? Any person that doesn't read my username "ezgoKID" and assumes that I have been working on carts for the last few decades as you said, should not assume and think for a minute. But please, explain to me. If you bought a cart for what you thought was $500 dollars overpriced and it didn't work correctly, didn't have any marking of a serial number, and then when you take it back to get it repaired from the original seller, they don't return the cart and YOU have to go pick it up? Please tell me how that is not extremely close to a scam. It seems you are not too fond of kids who have a hobby and try to help people and sometimes make mistakes. So better yet, don't respond.

Kid, your wrong! Rabbits right. I've been watching your posts and you present yourself as someone with a lot of expirience yet you really dont have a clue. That is obvious to those who actually know what they are talking about and of course have seen your posts where you have no business posting.

This is not a fight your going to win! Which is yet another indication of your ignorance.

Sincerely,

Now back to some good answers for the OP.
