Hi! I put an Alltrax 400DCX-PDS controller on my 04 PDS and got a nice bump in speed, especially down hill. Lately I have been thinking (always dangerous) about where the increase in speed comes from. Of course some of it comes from the increased amperage along with an increase in torque, but what I am wondering about is the limitation on top speed imposed by the PDS system at full throttle. On the stock configuration, the speed sensor tells the controller when the predetermined high speed limit is reached and the controller begins to apply regen to maintain that speed. That is why you can only go 18/19 MPH down long grades or on really level ground....right? What if...one were to take a very small (cell phone buzzer size) DC motor and attach to it the magnet that is attached to the motor of the PDS golf cart, and use it to trick the controller? The mini motor and the receiving end of the speed sensor could be set up in the same way as it was before, just with a tiny motor instead of the drive motor of the golf cart. 36 volts from the controller side of the solenoid (might have to add a micro-switch to trigger it, I don’t know), stepped down to 6/12 volts to run the tiny motor at the appropriate times. The tiny motor shows the controller 12/1500RPM at all times so the controller no longer controls the high end. Am I missing something here, or could the stock top speed of a speed-chipped PDS be increased to 20/22 MPH with a set-up like this? Why would this not work? Waste of time? I have a good stock controller that I am willing to use for the experiment, but I don’t want to just waste it. Feedback? Opinions? Pitfalls? Critiques? Thanks, Russ |

20/22 will not satisfy you for long then 24/26 or 26/28. Correct ? just thinking out loud.

No 22 is not enough for me but I have a lot of friends with stock PDS carts who wouldn't mind a couple of inexpensive MPH.
Might be able to program a micro-chip to replace the entire speed sensor & tiny motor aspect of it if the theory holds up. |

tell them to increase the diameter of their tires. I have found that a slightly larger tire (say a 18.5 x 8.5 x
 will yeild about 1 MPH higher speed on a PDS cart without any other modifications. A 20" tall tire will yeild even better results (22-23 MPH). |

Rabbit,
Don't want to give up any torque! (a fair many hills here) I just am not sure about the different interactions between the speed sensor and the controller. For myself, I've already drunk the Alltrax Kool-Aid and love it! Ultimately, that is the way to go. Tires and lifts are nice too! (I'm happy w/stock) I'm just in pursuit of one more slight, inexpensive, speed increase from the stock controller for my friends. Russ |
