Default Thermal Overload?

My cart will completely lose power occasionally- I turn the key off & wait a few seconds and everything is fine. Never has happened on the road- only when I'm trail-riding. The trails are sandy but not loose and the cart doesn't seem to be under a big load. Here are some details about my cart:

2006 EXGO PDS
6 inch lift
12" Wheels with 23 x 10.50 Tires
36 Volt
Stock Controller
2 Adults Riding

I've done some searching on the forum and it seems that the stock controller shuts down due to thermal overload. Am I correct? Thanks in advance!

Yes, and the thermal protection mode is going to come quicker and easier to get into over time .... Time to start thinking about a bigger controller.

Default Re: Thermal Overload?

ScottyB- Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm gonna ask Santa to bring me an Alltrax DCX400 I've been pretty good this year.

Question-- I plan on replacing the stock battery cables- would 2 gauge wire be over-kill?

From what I've read- a 400 amp controller, an upgraded solenoid, and new cables should work with the stock motor, resolve the loss of power, and give me more torque and a little more speed? I would love to hear your opinion.

Thanks again.
