Default LED SOC meter problem's?

I installed a digital lcd state of charge meter (has the vertical bars) I wired it just as the diagram showed but when you run the cart the meter will go down as normal but after charging it will not return to full charge (it doesn't move up at all). The only way I can get it to return showing full charge is to disconnect the leads from the battery. It has 3 leads off the back, #1 to Batt pos.,#2 to batt. neg.' and #4 to white/yellow lead from key switch.I replaced it yesterday with a new unit and it's doing the same thing. Am I wired up wrong or do you think it's the meter. Help!
Thanks David
I'd rather went analog but this is all the local dealer had at the time.

I cannopt see it from here, but I bet you have the #4 terminal wired to the HOT side of the key switch instead of the SWITCHED side of the key switch. You can verify this with a multimeter.

The meter will not come on unless the key is on and the f and r switch is in either f or r. but I'll check when I get home.

It should reset each time you charge your batteries, are you letting the charger finish it's cycle and shut off automatically?

Some times it finishes and sometimes we take it out before it's done, but i have let it finish charging and the meter is still showing about half charged, but if i check it with a volt meter i'm showing 38.5 to 39 volts.

There are 2 ways your meter will reset:
Open Circuit Reset (OCR) when you disconnect the battery and High Voltage Reset (HVR) when the batteries reach 2.35v per cell.
2.35v per cell is 42.3v for a 36v battery pack and if your charger is not reaching that point, it will not reset.
Check your charging voltage near the end of the cycle to see that it is getting up to that voltage.

just got home and the charger was done, but the battery pack was only reading 39 volts, pull the meter and it was getting 39 volts also.I thought if the battery pack was reading 38.5 volts that meant the batteries were OK.Even with the charger plugged in it still only reads 39 volts. how am i supposed to get 42.5 volt's?

38.5v is a full charge on your batteries but your charger needs to get those batteries up to about 42.3v for at least a constant 6 minutes during the charge cycle for the meter to reset. If you have an ammeter on your charger that stage is usually when it drops down to the lowest amperage level, somewhere between 2-5 amps. You will need to check your pack while it is in the final stages of charging to determine that the voltage is high enough to reset the meter.
Just out of curiosity is this a Curtis meter with 10 led bars?

Is there any writing or part numbers on the back of it?
Who did you buy it from and did you get any instructions with any information on it?
