Default 1989 EZ GO, no "Click"

Howdy all, I'll make this short and direct as I'm able.

I was given this cart a few years back. Buddy of mine said it was junk and NO WORKEY! With limited knowledge, capability and money I bought a set of batteries for it and located an accurate wiring diagram and got it to work well, by luck... Anyways, he bought it back for a good sum (sentimental value), batteries went bad all over again, he bought new ones and now the dang thing won't do nothing but blow fuses on a neg. to frame cable... That doesn't appear to be a factory supplied piece of equipment... Perhaps for the lights or some other accessory that was once on it..

Anyhooo, I've taken it back on as a project since it was just about given to me all over again with the same to-do list on it as before. I've used the same diagram as I did way back when, batteries are known to be good @ 38.4v?

I'm a mechanical guy, better with hard parts than electrical gremlins i. e. "Give me a broken pushrod or timing chain, something I can see..." Rather than what I have.

I know it can't be that complicated dealing with an old 36v GC, but I can't get the new solenoid to click with all the wiring hooked up. I can make it click by running 36v through the small posts, but not in the car, I have continuity on all three micro's.

I really like this car even in it's beater-like state, not sure why but I do.

Firt thins is to remove the frame grounding, that is wrong. Never ground to frame on an electric vehicle... Once you know what is needed to activate the solenoid it is easy enough to find what's missing. It takes a positive and a negative 36v at the small terminals to activate. Likely the negative will be constant and the positive thru the key and micros? I dunno what year cart you have.
But the oldies are all similar.

Thanks for the prompt response. I think my problem is very very simple. Where is my ground? Without the grounding to the frame, there's nothing on the 36v negative post accept the wire for the charger...

Here is the diagram I have been going by.

looks like something is missing in that diagram? NO? ... the solenoid activation circuit is a positive and negative at the small solenoid terminals.

In theory, all I need then is a wire from neg. post (36v) to small post to work with my switched positive?

...Going that direction, wouldn't that just be by-passing the on/off key?

Starting to think there's a big wire missing, shouldn't I have a cable coming off my negative post and grounding to the motor? Wouldn't be the S2...
Would it?

I jumped me a wire from my negative 36v post to the smaller post on solenoid. Clicks all day long but motor will not turn. Motors need ground right?
