Default Cart Shutters in reverse

Cart is a 1995 Medalist. 48 volts of fresh charged batteries. I was trying to back up over a root and my cart would just shutter. I had to go forward and then get a running start backward for the cart to make it over. The tires would not spin it would just shutter. Any ideas. I would like to fix this problem. Could this problem come from the F/R switch not fully engaging into reverse? It feels like my F/R handle should go a little further when I put it in reverse. I may have to order a new tie rod for the unit. Mine had 2" cut off of it.

Thanks,
David J.

If you are not going fully into reverse then the contacts are not making connection on 100% of their surface and this would limit their ability to conduct amperage... like a bottleneck. See that the Switch Cam is moving from stop to stop when shifting Forward to Reverse.

From what I know about the EZ-Go F/R setup, I'm surprised your cart works in EITHER direction. It's just not possible the way you describe it.

Gorno, The little lever on the back of the handle is actually turned upside down. It works like this, but I think it is a little short on the reverse side since that is the side that actually pushes the rod to the reverse side of the F/R switch. I think I will order the new linkage and give it a try.

I would not drive cart in reverse until you get this fixed. Your cart can catch on fire if your contacts are not made properly. You should be able to see if it is physically lined up.

Well, I am offshore for two weeks so it won't be going any where. I will look at it when I get home. Thanks for the info.

I put a new linkage/tierod on the F/R switch. The switch is moving in both directions the way it is supposed to. I reversed the wires on the F/R at the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock position. The cart then backs full speed ahead and shutters in forward when met with any resistance, such as a slight hill. I swapped the wires back to the normal operating position and the shutter is in reverse. Cart moves forward as it supposed to. Can anyone help me figure this out. PLease point me in the right direction. As it is right now I will not be able to back out of anything if it is not perfectly flat. Thanks.

Is there anyway that it could be a gear that may be stripped? Just loking for an explanation and how to fix this problem. Thanks.

Sounds like you are in half power reverse mode.... disconnect the orange wire from the F&R micro switch. Does that fix it?
