Default EZGO Steering Problem???????

Hi Guys,

I have some issues with my steering in my EZGO TXT 2001 model electric cart.

When I am steering both left and right, it seems to skip/slip quickly then steer again correctly....Any ideas what it would be and what part I need to replace??

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Nick

Welcome to BGW, Mate!

The steering rack has lost a tooth or two. You can try a new rack or better yet, get the complete rebuild kit for it.

Thanks Scotty, that was quick!!!

What would I pay for something like that and is it hard to install myself? It's about 200miles to my local cart man!!!!!

It is a hard to know your mechanical ability to question to answer.... it is not so hard to do. Remove the steering mechanism and pull a C ring and disassemble the rack and pinion ... the kit sells for about $130 here.

2001 was a transition year. Before you order the rack, you need to know if your steering box is mounted on the "firewall" or the front axle.

94-01 the steering box was mounted to the cart at the end of the steering column... after that they were mounted out on the front axle.

You need to get underneath the cart and get dirty to be sure? We have no way of knowing what you are seeing, sitting here half a world away.

Inspect the steering linkage for slippage while somebody turns the wheel back and forth in the 'bad' zone. If the linkage looks tight then the problem is in the box.

That's the best we can do from here, now, isn't it?
