Default Electric or Gas

I've been reading the forum for a while, and I thought it was time to sign up and ask a question. Not sure if there are a lot of gas or electric purists that don't cross over much, so I plan to post this same question on the gas side and electric side to insure input from both. Hopefully I'm staying within the rules.

I do not have my cart yet, but will be buying shortly. At this point I'm not sure if gas or electric is what I want. So I thought the best thing to do is give you an idea how I will use the cart and under what conditions. Also I can do some mechanical work, but not to the extent that I've read on some of these threads. So maintenance would probably be a factor.

I have a small acreage with my house and one of my kid's houses on it, so the cart would be used some just to go back and forth between places and used to putter around the acreage.

I also hunt some river bottom ground near my place, so the cart would be used to go there. Actually I spend a lot of time there all year. Round trip to the river and back would be about 3 to 4 miles, depending on how much driving you do once there, so if electric I'd need to be sure the batteries could handle a trip of that length. Also I live on the bluff, so at some point I will drop about 140 feet in elevation over 250 or 300 yards of dirt road. Of course it's getting back up that is the concern, not the going down. I don't plan to use the cart much if muddy since I have a 4 wheeler that I could use then. But as we all know, things change over time.

As for working around the place, I'm sure it would be used some for that. But that being said I have a pickup with a blade and a 3020 John Deere with an 8 foot snowblower on it, so snow removal would not be something where I'd use the cart. I'd probably want to attach some sort of box on the back to help me haul more stuff with me when using the cart, but again it wouldn't be like loading a bunch of firewood or anything very heavy.

So I guess it comes down to, is one better then the other when it comes to gas or electric. I understand I'm just asking for someone's opinion, but I don't have enough knowledge yet to have an opinion, so I'll gladly listen to someone else.

Thanks for any help. Looks like a great forum, I'm glad I stumbled on to it.

For me, I made the decision to go electric because I wanted to be as quiet as possible when going around the deer lease. Also, factor in how much time you want to be hauling gasoline from the gas station to your house. I like the idea of just plugging it in.

Noise was one of the things I'd thought about. Though I do admit I ride, and park my 4 wheeler right under my deer blind today. I also thought the gas cart might be quieter then the 4 wheeler.

My main concern was, would electric have the power I might need while out hunting, and how long will the batteries last per charging during colder winter weather.

you can say a full charge will get you 8-10 miles on average. you will replace batts every 5 years or so for trojans. Trojans right now are averaging $110 in my neck of the woods. Gas here is avg 3.00 a gal. I tell customer you can go an avg of 125-150 miles a tank. some get more some get less.

Here at the beach most are electric weather most of the time is uper 70s+ so we get 20 to 25 miles on a full charge but in the cold you may get 15 miles but it sounds like gas will work for you.

I'd say gas. Do you want to wait around for your batteries to charge or just fill it with gas and go?

I take it the 6 battery cart is a 36 volt. I've been seeing an ad on Craig's list for an EZ Go that's been posted off and on for the past 6 months or so. He says he's not sure what year, but it does have 6 new batteries. Not sure what type. Asking price is $1095. Here's a pic. Comparing that to some newer used models I've seen in an ad for a EZ Go dealer, the $1095 seems a bit high considering it may be real old and he doesn't have an age posted..

I'll feel better about an electric knowing I can make the 3 or 4 miles with no problems. The area I drive down there is not very rough, and mainly flat ground. If I have an area I want access to I make things easier by taking my tractor down and just building a road. Sand on the sandbars would probably be the toughest going, but I'm guessing tires is the key there.

Thanks for all the info.

I have had electric and gas.
Electric is quiet. Is great on flat ground but not on hills.
When your batteries run down your done for the day.
Don't know if you have electric plugs at the river. If you do take your charger with you(you will need it)
Gas can be quiet. When you run out of gas put more in and go.
You can go a lot farther on gas than electric and keep the same amount of power with gas.

GAS ONLY

.45 ACP because shooting twice is silly.
