what would be the run time difference in 8 6 volts and 6 8 volts. i have future plans ahead, but don't want to make any wrong decisions.

Re: run-time difference?
If the total bank amps are equal I expect there would be little difference in run time.
8 and 16 amp battery chargers are more expensive if you are doing solo test on a batttery and well as load testers. I picked up a 6/12 volt 100 amp load tester today at Harbor Freight for $20 and 6/12 volt 2/10/55 amp charger for $30 (Feb in mail flyer coupon). I also picked up a 2000/4000 watt 12v to 120 volt AC inverter for $129 with the coupon from the flyer but it is on sale for $159 without the flyer coupon. Well it was a $500 trip that the rest of the family need not know about. :) |

Re: run-time difference?
I changed over from 6 eight volt batteries to 8 six volt batteries and was advised that it should produce about 20% more run time. Sure seems like it. To date 25 miles on one charge. Now I live in FLA where its very flat but that the deal... Cart runs 31 mph and plenty of torque. Good luck....

Re: run-time difference?
If I am not mistaken, ScottyB told me it would be a 30% increase in runtime providing all other factors remain the same. I just restored a 1995 medalist and went with 48 volts. "8" six volt batteries. I was in the process of doing my battery break-in and I rode 12 miles in some pretty darn hilly terrain and still had 85% charge on my pack. I was very impressed.

Re: run-time difference?
The saying goes "lead = run time". With equal battery types, you will get about 35% more run time from 8x6v batteries than 6x8v.

Re: run-time difference?
When comparing 6-8v vs 8-6v batteries, I would like to hear some opinions on the extra battery weight when figuring the theoretical percent of run time increases. Does the extra 125 lbs or so become a factor?

Re: run-time difference?
The extra 125# of Weight is load which is certainly a factor in equation. Which is why you will not get the full mathematical answer for your results... but you will run longer.... every cart will differ slightly.
