Default Battery over spill

So I charged up the 97 ezgo txt 36volt the other night. I did not unplug it to next morning because I forgot I had the charger on, I had staining from the batteries on my garage floor. I have a powerwise qe charger. The batteries are reading 37.4 volts. What caused the overflow? I though the charger was supposed to shut off once it was fully charged. It is about 40 degrees Fahrenheit in my garage when I put the charger on. Would that have anything to do with it.

Overspill is usually caused by filling the cells up with too much water. Fill them about 1/4-1/2 inch above the lead plates next time.

I had checked them about a month ago and they were just about the plates.

Your batteries are probably getting older and will tend to boil more in the final stages of charging. As ezgokid said keep an eye on your electrolyte level, 1/4" max over the plates and don't add water before you charge unless it is below the plates, then just enough to cover the plates. Charging expands the water level, only add water after the charge cycle.

Get a watering setup and you have no spills and no hassle filling the batteries. Money well spent.

This is good if you want to spend hundreds of dollars when you can do it with a $2 ketchup bottle from the grocery store.
