PDS does not want to brake on hills
I am not familiar with EZGO but a golfing buddy asked me to check his 2001 PDS cart as he had no hill braking (never has had). I checked the cart and found he had a blank "Personality Plug - All Terrain" I swapped it for a Blue wire plug "Steep Hill" there was no differance in performance. I checked the speed sensor and found the magnet had seperated from the disc to which it was attached. I epoxied the two together, checked the system via "diagnostic mode" got 2 beeps, (no other fault beeps) still no hill braking. I can't find anything in the manual for checking the operation of the speed sensor.Any help would be appreciated I now see that the diagnostic will indicate a fault but the vehicle will have to be in operation (1 - 3 beeps) Will test it tomorrow

Re: PDS does not want to brake on hills
you have to hold the brake then without any gas let it start to roll. it should engage. also if you go full speed on flat ground and snap your foot off the gas it should feel like the brake went on for a second.

Re: PDS does not want to brake on hills
Quote:
Steep Hill performance option - This option includes all of the features of the All Terrain option plus compression braking. Compression braking occurs when the throttle is released while the vehicle is moving. The motor will electronically retard the motion of the vehicle until the throttle is depressed again or the vehicle stops." unquote Given the above explanations I expected the downhill braking to be stronger in Steep Hill mode than All Terrain but the only difference appears to be the engagement of what I can best describe as an anti runaway function that engages when you release the brake on a hill without touching the throttle (accompanied by the buzzer sounding off). Is there something I don't understand or is not functioning on the cart ?? |

Re: PDS does not want to brake on hills
Sounds like it is doing what it is supposed to do. Mine does not stop at all on its own in any mode. In freedom there is no Comp braking, in the hill modes it only if you press the brake and stepped off on an incline it rolls slow but it never stops but maybe if it is a low gradual slope but I haven't tried that.
I test it on a steep hill and when I run down the road and pop off the gas then it applies just a quick shot of brake and then it just coasts. On the downhill part you mentioned I think what it is trying to say is even with your foot in the gas going down a hill you wont go any faster than 13.5. In a car if you go up then down a bridge and held the gas to the floor you may slow down going up but you can be sure you would fly going down reguardless if the car could ever reach that same speed on level ground. get it? What it does is hold the down speed to the 13.5 reguardless of the throttle position. under normal driving going down will always speed you up, its the law of gravity, but the gas could be floored and on a long and steep enough hill you would actually be using the comp brake to slow and charge the PDS cart to hold that max speed of 13.5. |

Re: PDS does not want to brake on hills
It is a controlled 2mph run away, it will eventually stop at the bottom of the hill.
