Default charge/discharge problem

Hello all cart people:
I have an ez-go 1985 model… code#jo985 ……374808 . I'm having trouble maintaining a charge. When I start out the battery charge shows full. However as I step on the accelerator the charge meter goes to zero , as soon as I lIft my foot the meter comes back to full charge. Depending on how long I'm out (usually a short period of time) each time I depress the throttle the battery indication show less and less charge. This continues until the cart stops altogether. If I wait a while the charge indicator will come back up to the full line. At that point I'm able to run for about another half minute before the cart stops altogether. And I repeat the process. PLEASE , does anyone have any idea of what causes this problem ...and how I can fix the problem?
Hopefully

Welcome to the forum.

How old are the batteries and do you have a volt meter?

You need to charge the batteries up let them sit for 1 hr. and then post your voltage readings. It sounds like you need batteries though by your first post but the readings will tell the story. Have you checked the water level in them and made sure the plates have water over them. Do this before charging them.
