Default 2003 PDS Torque Issue?

Just bought my first cart last week. 2003 Lifted PDS 36V. 2008 Deka GC15 Batteries. Steep Hill Chip. Hunting Vehicle

My issue is that on hills small or large from a dead stop it will not move. I have to get a running start. And these are very high grade hills either.

I removed the steep hill chip and it seems to do slightly better. Would I be better off starting with a freedom chip and see if it improves? If that does not work any suggestions?

I'm no expert, but it sounds like you have a speed chip rather than a hill chip. Or your batteries need a charge

Sounds like a controller upgrade is in order

Pull the chip out all together ... if the problem remains you need a motor, likely it is fried.

PDS carts are not the best hunting/off road carts because they will not creep or crawl especially uphill without producing damaging amounts of heat.

This is why we suggest your hunting carts be a Series cart.

ScottyB- In your opinion and new motor and most likely controller is going to be the route to go?

You need something like a big torque motor for PDS and 4-500amp controller. Then you have to drive it with an understanding that it does not like to go slow for long = too much heat. If you can do that it should be fine...

What's the best way to check the heat being produced? I, as well, bought a PDS and will be doing some hunting and hills. Love the cart, but don't want to burn it up!

I've heard this before Scottyb and I'm not challenging this but I sure want to know the "why"....

I thought with the "freedom" mode that the PDS Regen is disabled essentially mimicking a series cart.

No?

Lightbulb Re: 2003 PDS Torque Issue?

The PDS carts will have less torque with a speed chip or Freedom chip as some call it.

No it want ever act like a series cart unless you change the motor and wiring.
The steep hill chip will send more amps back to the batteries while braking is all it changes and top speed.
I would see what the dignostic's tell you first.
You didn't say how big of wheels & tires you have.
Also you say it's a 2003 model, how about the batteries? If they are 2003 batteries then it's time for new ones. Past time I would guess from your post!
