Pack question with radio

I had my radio, horn and running lights hooked up to a separate 12 volt battery. the problem is it would go dead in a couple of days. The radio has a removable face and there is a light that always blinks when the face is not on. I assume the radio always has power? If I wire to the center row of my batts will it drain those batteries because it always draws power?

Also what are you guys using to renew your floor mat? I want it to look black again. I have made some winter changes and will post pics when its finished.

Sounds to me like it would certainly drain those batteries as well. If it is draining from one, I don't see why it wouldn't drain from the other. :-)

Best bet here is to get a voltage reducer. That is the recommended approach as drawing from your battery pack will shorten the life of your batteries. I would also recommend getting a switch for your radio so you can cut power when you aren't using it.

Oh, and I think the search functions on this site work quite well. One way to do it is go to the "Electric EZGO" forum and click on the "Search this Forum" link on the right side of the window. Pretty straightforward. You can also search all forums and individual threads. Was there something else you were trying to do?

To restore your floor mat give them a good cleaning and then get some Back to Black and put on them. This will restore the mats

Thanks for the replies. I did hook up the radio to the pack and like the idea of hooking up a switch. would it just need to go to the positive wire or both pos and neg wires? I will try the back to black too. Here are some pics so far.

Many on this site are more experienced with electronics than I, but I would put the switch on the positive side of the radio. Technically, a simple on/off switch just connects/disconnects the circuit, right? So it could go along the positive or negative side, to compelte the circuit. However, I would think it might offer some protection to your accessory by being on the positive side.

Yes, your radio will have power all the time depending on how you have it wired up. The accessory will be hot to keep your presets and time saved. If you do not have it switched then you would have to either take the face plate out or hold the power button to shut the radio off.

You said it is dying in a couple days. Are you using any other accessories or is it just going dead sitting in your driveway with out any use?

How are you charging the 12v battery now?

Thanks. I had the radio hooked up to a separate 12 volt (lawn mower) battery and it would go dead in a few days. I was charging it with a regular charger. I understand the radio having power all the time and having to turn it off but i was wondering if the two 6 volt batts it is hooked up to now will drain fast due to the memory? if i take the face plate off there is a red light that is blinking all the time. I might just wire a switch in the hot wire like suggested. thanks again

The memory pulls very little current along with that LED. Think of it like your car. The switch in the postive would be your ignition. When you shut the car off then the radio goes off but the accessory wire stays hot. It takes a long time for your car to die. If the presets and time are not important then you could put both to a switch or run a small reducer to pull from the entire pack.
