6 or 8 batteries for 48 volts ????
I am about to get a set of batteries for my 36 volt cart that I plan to upgrade to 48 as soon as I can. I know I need an aftermarket motor controller but I was wonder what to do about the batteries. The normal setup is 6 6volts or 6 8volts but I have heard that 8 6volts would be a good idea for long battery run time and 48 volts at the same time. I honestly won't be driving this thing for many miles at a time normally but I don't want the batteries to die half way through halloween when I circle my neighborhood (10 blocks) 10 times.
Sooo when it comes to 48 volts is 6 8 volt batteries OK or is the power/runtime that much greater for 8 6 volts? |

Unless you are doing something extreme with the motor, controller and large tires, I think you'll be fine with 6x8v batteries.
They should be good for at least 20 miles maybe more. The 8x6v batteries theoretically would give you 33% more run time. |

So I guess the 6 8volts would be adequate for my uses. I figured so since I won't be going up hill through the woods far away from a charger plug anytime soon.

Sounds like the advice is 6 is enough unless you really need long run times.

keep in mind that accessories are ussually 12volts. With 8v batteries you will have to use a reducer or a seperate 12v battery.
just my .02 worth. I have 8 6volts. |

Isn't it bad for the pack to run the accessories off of two of the sixes since it discharges the pack uneavenly? Just curious.....

Yes, it is undesireable to wire it this way. Mine has been like this for many years. but I care for my pack a bit differently than most guys, so I get away with it. All depends on amp draw and duration. A full pack convertor would be a better idea unless you really want to isolate things and install a dedicated 12v Deep Cycle Marine battery and charge that seperately.
