Default auxillary battery

can i wire an auxillary 12v battery parallel to 2 6vs witha diode where the 36v volt charger will chare it and the diode will prevent cart from pulling a load from it

The isolation diode will work as you describe but in terms of charging the pack, the charge current will divide between the two parallel paths and the two six volt cells will not recieve the same level of charge as the other batteries in the pack creating an imbalance in capacity.

Don't want to beat this to death but another problem would be if the AUX battery ran low it would take a charge from the 2 six volt batteries via the forward biased diode. They will always attempt to seek equilibrium (minus about .6 volts across the diode).

For convenience I may do the same but would need some sort of relay activated circuit so the only time there is a connection would be while getting current from the charger, also it would be best to get a zener diode to take 12 or 14 volts from across the whole 36/48 to your acc battery. I just realized how complicated this is sounding...... another idea is a to get a little wal wart that puts out 12v at say 1 amp from Radio Shack or find one laying around then drill a little hole and put a little jack right on your dash or body somehwere, then just plug it in when you park.

I can spell electricity but thats about it, when you guys start talking like this all I read is blah, blah, blah Thats why anything I need done to the cart, my buddy does it for me or I take it to a shop thats local to me. Anywho, why don't you just use a 36 or 48v to 12v converter, they are small and about the same price as another battery minus all the extra weight. I got a 48v to 12v 30 amp converter off fleabay for around $60 and it runs all my accessories with no need for a separate charger. I dunno, just my $.02.

You trade off efficiency for the convenience of having that converter. If it's getting hot then it's conversion isn't 100% efficient, but nothing is....Some converters run smoking hot, and if you can feel the heat it's lost energy, energy that makes your cart go......
So the trade is convenience for run-time. With an Aux battery it's weight is negligible in the scheme of things and any loss in run-time is also negligible.

On a 30 A Converter you probably won't...Doesn't mean it's efficient though. Just oversized for what you load into it. Most people buy them way too big for what they need and end up losing even more power.

If you're going to use one of these things be sure to know how much of a load in amps, or power, you're going to use and buy one that's 30~50% over, no more.
