Fender Flares- need to trim???

I have a set of flares for my cart but they don't snug up and conform to the fender. In fact they're grossly out of whack!

I think I remember one comment by a buyer, (rate this product stuff) on the store site I bought these from, rating them a 2 out of 5 because he complained that they did not fit......

I think now I know what he's talking about.

Anyway, have a look at the photos and you'll see a lip that extends beyond the flare and, frankly, I don't see any way that a bolt could ever snug up the flare to the fender as long as the lip's there.

Did you guys need to trim these things or is it just the crappy set I have???

Seems like I read somewhere that Essness had to heat his up to get them installed nicely on his wife's workhorse.

Anyone else? I can't be the only person to have installed these?? My intuition tells me to start cutting/sanding with my Dremel but WHY SHOULD I have to do so on flares that are supposedly "custom fit" for EZ-GO TXT?


Hmm, I bought these from Cart Parts Plus, who I believe is a site sponsor and it's owner, or someone affiliated with them is a member of this forum.......

Perhaps some insight BigBlockMan? I'll send him a PM and see if he'll answer my questions about these flares in this thread.......

Well, I took a second, third, and 1000th look at these....I suppose they will fit if one doesn't care that the shoulder of the bolt hole inside the flare doesn't contact the fender in any way. Not the way I would have thought it to be but after all it is just for golf carts.....

If you were to really crank down on the bolts it appears that either you'll get a nice tight fit by distorting the plastic or the bolt will pull through the hole.

I haven't drilled any holes as yet but am still looking for some insight from someone here.

AJ, that was because they were the rear flares for a TXT body and I put them on a worhorse

TBD, I would call CPP and ask the question. If I remember correctly, my front flares on the OE TXT cowl required a little effort, but everything pulled in just fine. No cutting or heat required.

Sorry you are having problems. You should not have to trim them, I just opened up a box and held them up to a cart and fitment is good. The bolt holes are about 1/16 from touching body, Which is just enough to pull flare up for a snug fit. Is this a original EZGO TXT body you are trying to install them on? Also I checked for the review you refered to and there is no such review, Perhaps you seen that on another site. If you would like I can take a photo of the fitment to the body.

Maybe it's just the way I'm looking at them. It's only the front flares that by my view look a little goofy in terms of mounting....

I'm going to use some double sided 3m foam tape to hold them up against the fender so that I can gain some confidence/perspective without the flare sliding around all over the place.

Yes, the review was on another vendors site, in fact I recall not buying that particular set because of the review/complaint.....of course the reviewer could've been wrong. Who knows?

Oh, and yes the body is a standard EZ-GO ('08 TXT).

I know what you mean, By looking at the back they do not look like they will sit right but the surface is not flat and as you see in the picture fitment is good. We use the front notch to determine mounting location as well as notch for rocker panel. They will pull up just fine.

Thanks for the photo. Here's what I found. Funny you should mention the notch because that's what I finally aligned to and held my breath and drilled the first hole up near my headlight....

BTW, the sticky tape did not work- waste of time....

From there (I know some guys recommend drilling the bottom hole) but I decided to drill the second hole. So far so good. Next I drilled the last hole defelcting the flare to position it on the bottom of the fender. I then drilled the final hole and I was done with the passenger side.

Soooo, I go off and align the drivers side flare similary, using the notch as my guide. I follow the same sequence as before but, lo and behold, this flare's misaligned with the other side.......

I take a deep breath and a break...

I go back and remove the flare I just installed. I compare it to the other side and find 1/2 " (or slightly more) difference in the notched cutout (see photos).

I trimmed this piece from the drivers side (left) flare, carefully aligned it (and luckily all of the previous holes were covered over) and reinstalled it.

Not bashing the product or anything here but trying to save someone else any problems in the future. When I looked at the cart from the front I could see that one was aligned further back than the other.....

I haven't done the rear's yet but I did carefully check to make sure they were mirror images of one another. As far as I can tell they are.

Oh, and yes, that is me in the reflection on the hood....Luckily I have all my clothes on unlike that guy on ebay...

Glad you got them evened up they look good. The flares you show in the link are a different manufacture and also mount with the black plastic "one time" push in rivets. We perfer another brand with the stainless bolts and nuts.
