Default New cart owner, have some questions about backup beep, torque and tires and light bar

Hello all,
Just got my first cart last weekend, a retired loaner from a golf cart shop in Sun City near Austin. They also put a brand new set of Trojan T105 batteries in it. It's a 2006 TXT Freedom SE

I found the owners manual online, trying to figure out if mine is working right. When I put the switch (PDS) in reverse, the reverse alarm sounds a steady tone. As soon as I hit the go pedel, it starts beeping. Reading the manual, which isn't really clear on this, it almost seems that the steady alarm is an alarm which sounds if the switch is put in reverse when moving, which it's not moving when I put it in reverse. It drives fine in both directions.

The cart has the freedom plug in it, so it actually runs good and I am happy with the speed. Is there a place I can start to see about recovering a bit of the torque? I use the cart for my neighborhood watch patrols, and we have some mild hills and it slows down a bit. Appears to have the stock cables and all.

I would also like to upgrade the wheels and tires as they are original and dry cracked, but I don't think I want to have to lift it. I can't tell by reading the sizes available, what would be a good wheel/tire size to fill the tire wells better, maybe increase the diameter of the tire a bit from stock, without affecting the performance dramatically? I think I read somewhere you can go up to a 20" tall tire stock?
It's going to be used 100% in the neighborhood so don't need knobby tires.

Last, it has the factory headlight bar (the single bar with the turn signals on the end) When I drive it at night, the brightest part of the beam is aimed to the side about 45 degrees on both sides, making a "vee" of light. Can these be adjusted? It's nice and bright to see the shoulder on both sides but looking straight ahead, not so much.

Thanks folks,
John

lights. Check the light bar and make sure the bulbs have not melted the housing. I have seen this more than once. And yes you can get just the light bar both OEM and aftermarket.

tires - Yes you can run a 20x10x10 tire and have very slight rubbing on sharp left turns. the tire may contact the brake pedal assy. If you add HD frt and rear springs it will raise the cart about 1/2 inch and it will clear with no rubbing.

torque - first thing to do is replace all wires with 4ga welding (high strand count) wire. every wire, not just battery to battery. you may be albe to go to the mild hill chip )i think it is blue) and add the 20" tires and you may not loose speed. If thats not enough torque than you need a 400amp controller. you will pick up speed and torque.

buzzer- I have seen some carts beep in reverse and some have a steady buzzer in reverse. Is it constant beeping or is it beeping a code with pauses between beeping? If its steady constant beeping, I would not worry bout it.

batteries - look at the negative post and see what the letter/number say and post. the letter will be month and number will be year. Just want ot make sure you have brand new batts instead of "new" to cart batts.

Jon;

I have an '08 PDS and mine beeps constant when put in reverse on flat ground with the cart not moving.
If I hit the gas slowly it will remain constant beep.

If the cart begins to roll, as in moving downhill in reverse, and the cart speed is greater than the pedal input, it will beep intermittantly.

I have a steep driveway and this happens often. Nothing to worry about IMO.

Hi Courtesycart,
When I push the reverse button, it's a steady tone, no pedels pressed. When I push the go pedal, it then goes "beep, beep, beep" like a backup alarm on a truck. When I let up, goes back to steady.
The batteries are brand new, he made a point to show me how to read the code, fresh off the stack.
I will pull that light bar off and see what it looks like behind. I have been looking at the cables at various vendors and think I will start with that, the full package that replaces everything.
I have been looking at tire/wheel packages, and the one size they seem to push is a 10" wheel with 205-50/10 tires, guess those are really the same diameter as the stock ones?

Thanks so much for answering all my questions! I see there are lots of sponsors of this forum so will start with those.

John

The Cable Set you need is just 8pcs and a 400a Alltrax controller/solenoid package,
Now that will give you some performance.
With the increased torque you can run the taller 250/50 10 street tires. They are the 20" equivalent.
The PDS is the perfect street cart. Consider adding a Voltage reducer and a set of driving lights?

I need to check that, it could be that I am moving when I take my foot off, so I get that beep beep. I bet mine is the same as yours. Thanks!

Hi Scotty,
It has a full light package on it, but I think all the lighting is hooked across the batteries.
Thanks for the tips, I will probably start with the cables and go up from there.

4g is what you need for the 400a controller if you go with 2g you will need to change the 2 that go to the motor too (10 pcs) but that is overkill imho.
