Default 96 ezgo medalist brake problem?

Have really started to notice a problem with what I think is the rear brakes. When I put it in reverse I'll get a clunk sound and the same for going in forward. Then my brake pedal will become very stiff and the brakes almost impossible to press down. After toggling through forward and reverse a few times it almost seems to "break free" and then works fine. Thoughts?

Check you brake cables, make sure that they are not binding in some way. Also if you know which the sound is coming from, pull the brake hub off and inspect your rear brakes. If it is not that then maybe something in wrong on the rear end itself, but lets inspect the brakes first.

I was wondering if it could be the cables so i'll investigate more. I have no idea which side the sound is coming from. I can't imagine it being a rear end problem and it causing the brake pedal to basically seize up.

The cables can go bad, make sure your pedal is free, if needed disconnect the cables and see if you can easily move them by hand.
